Dear Mr. Robinson,
I have been a loyal member of the Free Republic since before the 2000 election. I have been a Conservative since the early days of Clinton. When I found this site, I thought "Thank God, people who think like me." I have continued to think this until the more recent days. Now, it seems that there are threads left and right bashing our President.
Why? There are things the President has done which I don't agree with but my loyality still lies with him. I am not sure if these "Bush-Bashers" fail to see the reality that with politics comes comprimise or it is something worse. I feel there is a cancer in the Free Republic. Some are eating their own.
I feel that some of these people are members of the dreaded democratic underground disguised as disgruntled conservatives. They are only here to stir up trouble. What's worse, they are doing just that. I am not sure what I think you should do.
As a conservative, I believe in our moral code but I also realize the reality of politics. I back our President but if he were doing something unsavory (like lying under oath,) I could not support him. This is unlike the left's clintonista dogma. What President Bush is doing is not betraying the conservative cause. He is using politics to confound the left. Those who do not understand this are either leftists themself or unable to separate themselves from their zealousness.
This is your show. You choose who gets to be a member and who does not. Those who break your rules are banished from the kingdom. I am not discouraging free speech, but this is free speech in your forum. These Bush-Bashers are brining us down. When this infighting happened in 1992, Bill Clinton got elected. let's not let that happen again.
Yours,
Big Guy and Rusty 99
1)Has this country moved more towards the type of government originally outlined in the Constitution since Bush took office.
2)Has this country moved farther to the left, than when Bush took office.
I am not sure how to answer the question without appearing "weasely" but I think it depends on which issue you are addressing. On some issues (defense and abortion for instance) I think the country has moved further right, but on others (education and health care) I think it is still moving left.
And, as I stated earlier, I think the move to the right has to start at the local level, and I think as long as the American people are, on the whole, looking for a European-style nanny state, the country is going to continue to move leftward, regardless of the President.
You're doin' good.
I only made it to #27.
No, actually the Republican candidate was unopposed in the primary and the party (not to mention Republican voters) are completly united behind him. You see, the unfortunate problem of living in the suburbs means the city of Chicago can take a little town with a population of 20,000 and conviently "add" it to an scummy urban district a few miles away that is losing population.
The result is 30% of our district is composed of middle-class suburbs who generally vote middle of the road, and the remaining 70% of the district is neighborhoods on the south side of Chicago who vote LOCKSTEP Dem and do not care what we think. The district is rigged so we are outvoted and have NO voice in who "represents" us.
In fact, if ONLY the suburbs had voted, Bobby Rush would have lost EVERY single election from 1992 onwards. That fact is verified at the Illinois State Board of Elections. I've already stated that I am NOT once of those "candidates must agree with me on EVERY issue" freepers. In fact, I get flamed by them on a regular basis when I point out the idiots who voted for Perot solely because of the NAFTA issue. So please STOP making up these statements as you go along. Maybe you should have checked to see who Rush's opponents were before you started making up completely false charges. The facts are that the Republican candidate, Ray Wardingley , is certainly FAR for perfect but he is also MUCH better than Bush on things like border control and fighting for the rights of the unborn. Both conservatives AND moderates voted for him.
Don't blame me for the GOP failing to run good candidates in OTHER elections.
Interestingly enough, if the Illinois GOP had done their job and protected ALL their voters, my town would be in Bill Lipinski's district like most of the southwest suburbs of Chicago.

What if he can WIN? And he's the lesser of two Evils?
aHA! Caught you in a trap!!!
I am at a disadvantage over most Bush basehrs. I agree with his handling of CFR, I think its brilliant. I disagree with the farm bill but don't think he had a political option. The education thing stinks unless he manages to get testing in before he leaves office. Unlike CFR, its a gamble I don't think he will pull off over the next 6 years.
The pleasure was all mine.
*Sigh* I can't believe you have it broken down into percentages.
I may be wrong, but I'm never uncertain.;^)
Changing the tone was and IS far more important than revenge, anyway. Drawing a nation together sometimes leaves those of us who wanted to see the klintons drown in the betrayal and filthy they brought upon our nation unfullfilled-you especially-I guess, from the tone of your post above. Whatever.
Why don't you grow up and see the the cloth that is smothering your own eyes before you go stomping off in a tantrum over those of us who not only admire but are THRILLED with the Presidency as it is shaping up under President Bush's leadership. It ain't perfect sweetie-but the rhythm and method and goals are beyond brilliant...relax a bit and enjoy the show.
