Dear Mr. Robinson,
I have been a loyal member of the Free Republic since before the 2000 election. I have been a Conservative since the early days of Clinton. When I found this site, I thought "Thank God, people who think like me." I have continued to think this until the more recent days. Now, it seems that there are threads left and right bashing our President.
Why? There are things the President has done which I don't agree with but my loyality still lies with him. I am not sure if these "Bush-Bashers" fail to see the reality that with politics comes comprimise or it is something worse. I feel there is a cancer in the Free Republic. Some are eating their own.
I feel that some of these people are members of the dreaded democratic underground disguised as disgruntled conservatives. They are only here to stir up trouble. What's worse, they are doing just that. I am not sure what I think you should do.
As a conservative, I believe in our moral code but I also realize the reality of politics. I back our President but if he were doing something unsavory (like lying under oath,) I could not support him. This is unlike the left's clintonista dogma. What President Bush is doing is not betraying the conservative cause. He is using politics to confound the left. Those who do not understand this are either leftists themself or unable to separate themselves from their zealousness.
This is your show. You choose who gets to be a member and who does not. Those who break your rules are banished from the kingdom. I am not discouraging free speech, but this is free speech in your forum. These Bush-Bashers are brining us down. When this infighting happened in 1992, Bill Clinton got elected. let's not let that happen again.
Yours,
Big Guy and Rusty 99
They take collegiality far too seriously, ignoring the stakes for which the Left is willing to bleed us.
That would imply the people whom Zogby puts in his polls are 'Democratic defrauders', so how does Zogby know whom to poll to get this factored in?
Or are you suggesting he calls the Democratic party operatives who conduct the fraud, finds out how many fraudulent votes will be cast, and then adjust his polls accordingly?
They are Losertarians, Buchananuts, Keyesters and the like who are drawn to bellicose demagogues like flies to a bad smell.
They want shouting and bloviating and tub-thumping and anyone who does not subscribe to their particular brand of single-issue looniness is branded as a liberal, socialist, pinko running-dog or whatever.
Pay them no mind because in the real world their numbers are so few that they are politically insignificant.
So far every "flip Flop" has bee proven to be in the imagination of those praying for one. Care to name a concrete example of a "flip-flop"?
None of you blind followers of him never address the issues presented relative to his embracing the dem's programs, rather, many of you resort to name calling.
Don't you people realize that there is no difference between the parties?
A republican congress gave us the p.a.t.r.i.o.t. act, the CFR, the dem's education bill, they placed 60,000+ new employees on the government payroll which is what the dem's wanted. These are just a few of the dem's programs he and the repubs have embraced and we are supposed to be quiet and say nothing?
You have attributed some sort of political genius to him by taking the dem's programs as his own. The fact remains, it is still the dem's programs which is spend, spend spend. This will be followed by tax, tax, tax. It is big government! Your great repub party had the senate and let the traitor off the hook in the impeachment farce.
Have any of you noticed the men that have decided not to run for re-election? We are losing a couple of good people who, unlike you, know that it is a losing battle to try to fix the corruption that's taking place within our government.
You are willing to give up your liberty for the sake of security by blindly accepting giving more power to LE. I suggest you read section 802 of the the patriot act because it will come back to bite us. It has no "sunset" provision.
If Mr. R bans me for my stand, then so be it. I did not vote for either bush or gore and do not intend to vote for him in '04. BTW, I do not hate bush, I am just disappointed in him.
FWIW, I volunteered for Goldwater in'64 and went door to door and registered 53 new republican voters for him, but, I left the party when the eastern liberal establishment of scranton and rockefeller helped destroy his candidacy.
I await the insults du jour. BTW, I have already been called a communist, a libertarian, an anarchist, a moron, an idiot and other such names, but, I will not reply in kind because those are replies of people who cannot address the issues presented and they resort to the clintonian retort of insults and personal vilification.
FReegards
Well up till that time I will refuse to vote for or re-elect those who vote for and help pass unconstitutional leglislation, ignores the tyranny, misconduct, or treason of fellow lawmwkers or the same actions of whoever the POTUS might be doing the same.
I think in the long run this is the only viable solution to make certain another Clinton or the likes never gets away with it again. I'm not looking for a majority of anything. I'm looking for lawmakers who will stand tall for the constitution they swore to uphold. A few willing to take the hard road will be the ones who change the course of this nation for the better.
Your statement
It isn't the Bush bashing that gets me, that's OK, and Dubya will be fine in spite of these guys. It's the bashing of anyone who supports the president that pisses me off.can readily be modified to reflect the opinions of the other side.
It isn't the BushI discern 'incoming' emotions from both sides. The President isn't perfect nor are his policies, positions. Yet this forum goes round and round either questioning or defending this Administration. Perhaps it is time to agree to disagree. To perceive the goal in 2002/2004.bashingbootlicks that gets me, that's OK, and Dubya will be fine in spite of these guys. It's the bashing of anyone whosupportscriticizes/questions the president that pisses me off.
I envision that some first time FR visitor may equate:
Bush-bot = Clinton enablers/apologists
Bush Bashers = Clinton haters.
We are indeed eating our own.
I'll assume I know why you'd pick Steve Forbes. But why would you have Bill Gates determine US monetary policy, let alone be President?
You make a great point - I am not going to quote percentages, but I'd be willing to bet that a large majority of the grumbling against Bush centers around his handling of the war on terrorism.
CFR, we'll let the USSC decide, education, immigration, and other more domestic issues, we would grumble quietly about and go on our merry way.
He's done a great job with part of the war on terrorism.
But there are two major problems.
1)He tells us "Your either with us or against us", then proceeds to ignore the Saudis and Arafat (in other words "I said this, but I'm not going to abide by it")
2)The victim thing. Many of us are upset that Cheney/Rummy/Ridge have the audacity to tell us "there's nothing you can do, it's inevitable, you have to be a victim at some point". Many of us served our country in the military, and then to hear them tell this nation "too bad, so sad, we can't do anything". It's only been a few weeks since we heard all of this, but many veterans I know are more upset about this one single thing than many other things Bush has done.
I don't get a chance to keep up on FR as much as I'd like to, but people that I work with and hang out with, that are Conservative, were mad as hell to hear the comments made by this administration. Like I said, I can't quote numbers, but I think many are upset at our leadership, both civilian and military, acting like they are absolved of anything happening, that there is nothing they can do about it.
His own whacked out embrace of the John Birch Society wrecked his campaign.
You have the answers NOW go create it and "they" will come.
Do you have a problem with my benevolent and constructive idea?
Examples please, not hysterical accusations.
Absolutely not. In fact I urge you to implement it. You can let us all know when it is done.
Yes!
