Dear Mr. Robinson,
I have been a loyal member of the Free Republic since before the 2000 election. I have been a Conservative since the early days of Clinton. When I found this site, I thought "Thank God, people who think like me." I have continued to think this until the more recent days. Now, it seems that there are threads left and right bashing our President.
Why? There are things the President has done which I don't agree with but my loyality still lies with him. I am not sure if these "Bush-Bashers" fail to see the reality that with politics comes comprimise or it is something worse. I feel there is a cancer in the Free Republic. Some are eating their own.
I feel that some of these people are members of the dreaded democratic underground disguised as disgruntled conservatives. They are only here to stir up trouble. What's worse, they are doing just that. I am not sure what I think you should do.
As a conservative, I believe in our moral code but I also realize the reality of politics. I back our President but if he were doing something unsavory (like lying under oath,) I could not support him. This is unlike the left's clintonista dogma. What President Bush is doing is not betraying the conservative cause. He is using politics to confound the left. Those who do not understand this are either leftists themself or unable to separate themselves from their zealousness.
This is your show. You choose who gets to be a member and who does not. Those who break your rules are banished from the kingdom. I am not discouraging free speech, but this is free speech in your forum. These Bush-Bashers are brining us down. When this infighting happened in 1992, Bill Clinton got elected. let's not let that happen again.
Yours,
Big Guy and Rusty 99
No, this is NOT a " Conservative country ", and your brand of Conservatism ( thank GOD !) , won't ever be installed at THE defintion of Conservative. You're a blind purist, to whom 1/2 a glass is the same as an empty one.
Oh, yes. You were rationalizing how it was just good politics -- and we would be stupid not to control the outcome -- and we couldn't have a real race because it would weaken our candidate before the election -- and the people inside the party machinery are in a position to know what's best for us -- and leaving it to the people might get us stuck with an unelectable pro-life conservative -- etc. etc. etc..
I guess you wouldn't want to remember that, would you.
Hard core liberals = 25% (approx)
Hard core conservatives = 25% (approx)
Needed to win election = 50% plus one (exactly)
Politicians run to the middle because that is how they get elected.
Change the opinions/sentiments of the majority of the middle to your way of thinking = Victory.
How do we get the middle thinking and voting like a conservative? Hmmmm...
Sitting around and arguing which snake (politician) is more deserving of your support while ALL OF THEM run to the middle to get elected is ludicrous. The only reason we have any conservative reps in DC at all is because they are from such solidly conservative districts they don't have to pander to the middle. (There are some exceptions (Bob Barr) but they only prove the rule.).
Watching futile excercises like this makes me wonder if we ever will have the smarts and savvy to take on liberalism on and defeat it.
Give it up Goldwater and Reagan hated each other with the passions of hell no matter what RR said in Goldwater's nomination speech. Barry Goldwater was a free market leftists and admitted it in his later years. He despised the religious right that actually made Ronald Reagans presidency possible and he died a bitter and angry foot note in history.
Go ahead and cop a condescending attitude. It only demonstrates that you do understand the bias and you are unethical enough to validate it.
I think you're projecting a little bit here. I'm not the only one you post this drivel to; it really seems to bother you that some of us actually have FAITH in somebody, instead of that great need to debase and denigrade people and their ideas.
After looking over the threads, I'm very happy with the people on 'my side,' brainless as we are. Actually, I'm rather glad I don't agree with you on anything; from where I sit, it looks so hard to be that negative.
No offense meant, of course.
I understand the ideologues say we're supposed to be all detached from our own society and non-judgmental, much as an anthropologist might be when studying a society of cannibals.
Now I really have to disagree with you. Reagan beat his opposition because he was never vague about his opinion. He was a staunch conservative and never made any apoligies for it. The public respected him for it and it confounded his liberal opponents to no end.
I can understand the complimentary edge, but Fred was NEVER mean-spirited or full of himself.
Looks like something on Yahoo chat.
Wouldn't it be nice if he just tried to do the RIGHT thing....not what was 'cost-effective'.
redrock
The politicians play their political games and we argue about the size of the ball of twine.
Interesting, as you are the one that posted to me first on this thread, and continue to respond. I don't go to "a day in the life" thread and bother you, and I never will. I prefer more reality based threads.
Cheers.
