An Open letter to Jim Robinson: Can the Bush-Bashers

Dear Mr. Robinson,

I have been a loyal member of the Free Republic since before the 2000 election. I have been a Conservative since the early days of Clinton. When I found this site, I thought "Thank God, people who think like me." I have continued to think this until the more recent days. Now, it seems that there are threads left and right bashing our President.

Why? There are things the President has done which I don't agree with but my loyality still lies with him. I am not sure if these "Bush-Bashers" fail to see the reality that with politics comes comprimise or it is something worse. I feel there is a cancer in the Free Republic. Some are eating their own.

I feel that some of these people are members of the dreaded democratic underground disguised as disgruntled conservatives. They are only here to stir up trouble. What's worse, they are doing just that. I am not sure what I think you should do.

As a conservative, I believe in our moral code but I also realize the reality of politics. I back our President but if he were doing something unsavory (like lying under oath,) I could not support him. This is unlike the left's clintonista dogma. What President Bush is doing is not betraying the conservative cause. He is using politics to confound the left. Those who do not understand this are either leftists themself or unable to separate themselves from their zealousness.

This is your show. You choose who gets to be a member and who does not. Those who break your rules are banished from the kingdom. I am not discouraging free speech, but this is free speech in your forum. These Bush-Bashers are brining us down. When this infighting happened in 1992, Bill Clinton got elected. let's not let that happen again.

Yours,

Big Guy and Rusty 99

The thing about Bush that irks me most is his apparent vagueness.

That "vagueness" is his greatest strength. That "vagueness" is the reason the Libs have never been able to make anything stick. That "vagueness" is exactly why Reagan never lost a significant battle because NO ONE knew what he would do next. Bush is NOT an diabolical conservative in the vein of say Barry Goldwater. Bush is first and foremost an MBA president. He looks at each decision from a "cost benefit" view. In the end that is "conservatism" at its best. Reagan understood the concept very well give a little and get a lot. Nothing Bush has "caved" on has been anything but symbolic in nature but it does give him the leverage to demand that there is a Quid pro quo due him. If you are looking for an "Elmer Gantry" you are right he does not operate that way, if you are looking for a competent Executive then he fits the bill.

Speaking from my own experience I think it has more to do with people holding their noses and voting for the lesser of two evils.

I don't see much difference in what I do and what you do, except for one thing: I'm not pretending to be something I'm not. Of course, I'm sure YOU do see a difference, being more intelligent and all, and more conservative and all.

You may choose to characterize me any way you want; but your pontificating is no different than mine. You just see the negative while I see the positive.

I have this odd view that Bush got nominated because about 75% of registered GOP primary voters wanted him nominated.

Yep, that's the view you are supposed to have. Unfortunately, there is a reason why the votes came out that way, and it isn't because Bush won in a fair race.

McCain got most of the balance. Both got their messages out, McCain in fact with a bit of an assist from moi. Backrooms may generate money, but in a race as visible as that for president, in the end, money alone is not enough, not nearly enough. The public will really does manifest itself, and there are a lot of examples to prove it.

The choices presented to the public are controlled from the very beginning. The insiders choice is set up to be the front runner and his opposition is chosen to make him look good. Nobody else is allowed to make an impression. The rules prevent it. The nominee is chosen long before any primary votes are cast, using the same game that is used for elections in communist countries.

When you present a list of Bush critics to be banned, please put my name on the very top of it. When this place becomes a mutual admiration society for a certain politician or political party, it will have become a worthless waste of time no better than stinking left-wing, liberal screed boards.

Wrong. The nomination was decided in the party backrooms long before anybody went to the primaries or caucus meetings. I know you know that because we had this discussion during the election cycle and you finally agreed with it and defended the practice.

That does not sound like something I would have conceded but no matter.

Lots of people haven't read the Holy Bible. An attempt to read the Bible stirs up the enemy. It's possible to read one Book a day - and in 66 days, you've read it. A challenge worth taking, if you care about your life.

Except in this case it isn't "lesser", just different.

Where do you send your kids to school? I have had my kids in school in Texas and Oklahoma and neither of those districts did anything close to what you stated! Don't make a blanket statement about all schools unless you have the facts! Since when did God like quitters?

(ya know...the guy who really influenced Reagan)

Yeah, I remember him. He couldn't get elected because he scared the whole country to death.

Yes, we may win a battle now and then but we will lose the war because we spend our energies flailing at shadows and symptoms.

Again, it amazes me that you and I are the only two that have even discussed this. Everyone else is concentrated on how many miracles our Moseses (elected representatives) should be able to perform. LOL

Being positive is fine, but you should try it without blinders.

Again your opinions regarding this administration are really worthless due to the fact that you run from one thread to another, regardless of the issue, waving pom poms for the President.

We all know you like him very much, that's fine, but it also makes your opinions of the issues very biased, as you have an obvious conflict of interest. The issues mean nothing to you, only the President and the party. Again, no offense meant.

We have no conservative leaders.

Then lead.

One problem is that so many of us look outward instead of looking in.
