An Open letter to Jim Robinson: Can the Bush-Bashers

Dear Mr. Robinson,

I have been a loyal member of the Free Republic since before the 2000 election. I have been a Conservative since the early days of Clinton. When I found this site, I thought "Thank God, people who think like me." I have continued to think this until the more recent days. Now, it seems that there are threads left and right bashing our President.

Why? There are things the President has done which I don't agree with but my loyality still lies with him. I am not sure if these "Bush-Bashers" fail to see the reality that with politics comes comprimise or it is something worse. I feel there is a cancer in the Free Republic. Some are eating their own.

I feel that some of these people are members of the dreaded democratic underground disguised as disgruntled conservatives. They are only here to stir up trouble. What's worse, they are doing just that. I am not sure what I think you should do.

As a conservative, I believe in our moral code but I also realize the reality of politics. I back our President but if he were doing something unsavory (like lying under oath,) I could not support him. This is unlike the left's clintonista dogma. What President Bush is doing is not betraying the conservative cause. He is using politics to confound the left. Those who do not understand this are either leftists themself or unable to separate themselves from their zealousness.

This is your show. You choose who gets to be a member and who does not. Those who break your rules are banished from the kingdom. I am not discouraging free speech, but this is free speech in your forum. These Bush-Bashers are brining us down. When this infighting happened in 1992, Bill Clinton got elected. let's not let that happen again.

Yours,

Big Guy and Rusty 99

Clinton is the standard for how low you can go.
Condit may have let that standard go even lower.

I doubt it.

Whatever Condit may have done, I am sure Clinton has done worse, by far.

Darlin, don't let it get to you. It's been going on a long time. You think it's bad now. You should have been here during the election.. There are people here who don't think Bush is conservative enough, they have their opinion I have mine which is different than theirs.

It seems two groups of people have emerged, the ones that are not afraid to admit that this President is a big disappointment on several of the major issues, and are very upset by it, and those that for one reason or another, refuse to see any problems, and have a genuine tinker bell attitude towards this President and his administration

Don't sugar coat it, Joe. Say what you mean. You meant to say

Us=The Good Guys, Holders of the Real Truth, True Conservatives

v. Them=Those Who Know No Better and March Lockstep Behind the Usurper of the Conservative Agenda

I didn't post this to you, but I must say, your opinion is really worthless regarding this administration. No offense meant.

Yes it was a rather clean sweep. They may be a SCOTUS case on this one along with the one in Mississippi regarding whether state or federal courts have jurisdiction absent a specific state law (neither state had one) conferring jurisdiction over a deadlock on redistricting on the state courts (two federal courts coming to contrary opinions, both benefiting coincidentally the Pubblies; ain't that a shame?), but it won't affect this election.

No. But it's a big one

OK, on the other issues you view as conservative principles, Is Bill Gates still on your short list?

I haven't met Bush. Maybe I'd change my opinion if I do meet him. Of the politicians I've met, only my view of one of them(GOP ones) was really negative(he lied to me). I've had one bad office experience with one of the aids with a different one. That's it on the negative scale.

The thing about Bush that irks me most is his apparent vagueness. Where does he stand? That's from his TV and radio spots going back to his speeches and debates. Maybe that's just a personality clash. I prefer straight talk(Real straight talk, not McCain's fraud). I also sense a lack of direction from him. I won't comment on the global warming thing, but he did promise to veto CFR in his campaign. The Patriot Act was a policy disagreement, but a major one.

Where I come from, people are expected to say what they mean, and do as they say. To me, a vagueness is a sign of weakness and being afraid to take a stand. A Flip flop is the same way.

Yes, we may win a battle now and then but we will lose the war because we spend our energies flailing at shadows and symptoms.

You mean my opinion is worthless because I don't agree with you. So typical.

Not much......seems like the best that I can say about him is that....

1) He hasn't been caught with his pants down with an intern....and

2)I really do like the way in which he started out with the War on Terrorism.

Sadly....there isn't much more.....

"I doubt it. Whatever Condit may have done, I am sure Clinton has done worse, by far."

You might be right. Time will tell.

We can agree on one thing however, both are low life bottom feeders.

Oh Howlin, get a grip.

I am not disappointed in Dubya yet. I have no idea how it is all going to play out, actually. Maybe the Supreme Court will throw out CFR. Maybe admitting that we are responsible for global warming, but we have to adapt, will ultimately result in such happening. Maybe his signing of the education bill will result in vouchers.

We shall see if his game plan works in the long run.

So conservatives can lay claim to giving GW the nomination.

Wrong. The nomination was decided in the party backrooms long before anybody went to the primaries or caucus meetings. I know you know that because we had this discussion during the election cycle and you finally agreed with it and defended the practice.

However the conservative turn out in the general election was about what it has been in the past about 30%. Bush squeaked out an electoral majority with that 30% conservative, 40% moderated Republicans and the independents he was able to win over. If we play the numbers game BUSH only owes "us" 30 % of the policy decisions. Now, had "us" conservative had put down the beer, turned off the TV and voted with the same enthusiasm we did in the primaries, then "we" would have delivered him a clear mandate and could demand complete fealty to "our" cause. Get it?

I'll tell you what I "GET". I get that we are supposed to have a President that respects the Constitution. I get that we elected a President who does not. I get that we are going to have a bigger federal government when Bush is done than we had when Clinton finished. I get that we'll have greater infringement on individual rights and less real security when Bush is done. Worst of all, we'll still have people like you who claimed they would be watching Bush very carefully to ensure that he remained true to the conservative cause, but instead have been a gooey-eyed lacky shill ever since he took office. There is nothing -- absolutely nothing he could do that you would disagree with. You are no different, and perhaps even less intellectually honest than the Clinton groupies that were so despised in the past.

I think this one in OK is not going anywhere -- the DemocRAT donations are not overflowing here and even their Congressman is not all that unhappy since his seat is secure for now!

I've heard the end is near story for 40+ years. I've studied history, and it's been talked about since the beginning. In 999 that was the end too. Guess they were wrong. If God is coming and the end is here, there's really nothing any of us can do, is there? So YOU can just sit back and wait for our country to destroy. Not me.
