An Open letter to Jim Robinson: Can the Bush-Bashers
none ^ | today | me

Posted on 06/06/2002 9:57:11 PM PDT by Big Guy and Rusty 99

Dear Mr. Robinson,

I have been a loyal member of the Free Republic since before the 2000 election. I have been a Conservative since the early days of Clinton. When I found this site, I thought "Thank God, people who think like me." I have continued to think this until the more recent days. Now, it seems that there are threads left and right bashing our President.

Why? There are things the President has done which I don't agree with but my loyality still lies with him. I am not sure if these "Bush-Bashers" fail to see the reality that with politics comes comprimise or it is something worse. I feel there is a cancer in the Free Republic. Some are eating their own.

I feel that some of these people are members of the dreaded democratic underground disguised as disgruntled conservatives. They are only here to stir up trouble. What's worse, they are doing just that. I am not sure what I think you should do.

As a conservative, I believe in our moral code but I also realize the reality of politics. I back our President but if he were doing something unsavory (like lying under oath,) I could not support him. This is unlike the left's clintonista dogma. What President Bush is doing is not betraying the conservative cause. He is using politics to confound the left. Those who do not understand this are either leftists themself or unable to separate themselves from their zealousness.

This is your show. You choose who gets to be a member and who does not. Those who break your rules are banished from the kingdom. I am not discouraging free speech, but this is free speech in your forum. These Bush-Bashers are brining us down. When this infighting happened in 1992, Bill Clinton got elected. let's not let that happen again.

Yours,

Big Guy and Rusty 99

I don't mind debating facts. I DO very much mind seeing lies ( like the one you just posted ! ) used as a " fact " !

I also think that calling those who don't immediately keejerk into bashing ( and YES , it is BASHING, instead of discussion ) " BushBots " , is a LIBERAL tactic.

Unfortunately he has advanced Altzheimer's disease. Basicly we are captainless. We have no conservative leaders. This is really no mystery when you consider that this whole nation is on some form of welfare. We are a corrupt land. We are on a slipery slope and I see little hope of a foothold or purchase. The DC elite are spending us into bankruptcy and our president is doing nothing about our most urgent threat .... Middle East immigration. This is actually the primary reason I have come to despise W. He has failed in his most important role. To provide for the common defense.

It seems two groups of people have emerged, the ones that are not afraid to admit that this President is a big disappointment on several of the major issues, and are very upset by it, and those that for one reason or another, refuse to see any problems, and have a genuine tinker bell attitude towards this President and his administration

Don't sugar coat it, Joe. Say what you mean. You meant to say

Us=The Good Guys, Holders of the Real Truth, True Conservatives

v.

Them=Those Who Know No Better and March Lockstep Behind the Usurper of the Conservative Agenda

What kind of moron would remain loyal to a President that has betrayed us the way GW Bush has?

I am assuming by the US that you were fooled into voting for him. On that assumption let's play the numbers game, The Conservative turn out in the primaries was an all time high. So conservatives can lay claim to giving GW the nomination. However the conservative turn out in the general election was about what it has been in the past about 30%. Bush squeaked out an electoral majority with that 30% conservative, 40% moderated Republicans and the independents he was able to win over. If we play the numbers game BUSH only owes "us" 30 % of the policy decisions. Now, had "us" conservative had put down the beer, turned off the TV and voted with the same enthusiasm we did in the primaries, then "we" would have delivered him a clear mandate and could demand complete fealty to "our" cause. Get it?

Think over time we will see a lot of change but we need to educate both coasts. I have it a lot better here in OK with my State Rep, need a new State Senator though! My Rep is J.C. Watts and my two Senators are Nickls and Inhofe. With the exception of my State Senator who is a DemocRAT, all the rest have excellent conservative voting records.

I took my then 18 year old daughter who to all the electiongate rallies. It was her first time voting for president. She even grabbed the bullhorn and made a speach to the audience about teaching the kids. I was so proud of her!

The Liberal Media and Education System is the real enemy.

So true. I am amazed at these people who think that the president can be a Moses and lead us to the promised land. The president doesn't even hold the true position of power, the media and education elites do. And rank and file conservatives are doing almost nothing to give our elected representives in Washington the support they need to turn back socialism. That's why liberalism is so successful and continues to expand, the liberals control the true seats of power: Media and Education. Media and education elites hold the true seats of power because it's these two entities that control public opinion.

I guess you misunderstood. "US" are the Bush Bashers, you know, the only ones who know what the Constitution says and what the Founding Fathers meant.

Meant to tell you that the Federal Lawsuit about OK redistricting got thrown out by the Federal Judge. Said it had already been decided by a Court! Looks like the State Redistricting is now set! Republicans won every battle!

Unfortunately he has advanced Altzheimer's disease.

Oh geeze. Another Reagan the myth instead of Reagan the man. GW Bush has followed the Reagan model EXACTLY. Reagan would be proud to claim Bush as his heir.

I have learned that there are many types of conservatives and that we do not all think alike. Some are merely fiscal conservatives, some spiritual conservatives..etc... I personally feel that the most important thing is to stand behind the values and morals set forth in the Bible. The second most important thing is to defend the principles of the US Constitution. Now if a person in office goes against those beliefs, I will not support him, whether or not he is President of the United States, whether or not he is a Republican, whether or not he calls himself a Christian. The important thing to me is the action the person takes, the things he lives by, not the job title or political affiliation.

It never fails to amaze that people get upset when politicians act like politicians. The militant left was also upset when Clinton signed welfare reform and NAFTA. Guess what, he got elected twice. Politicians do that...so do political parties. They check the morning polling data and see how far out in the middle they can go without pissing off their base too much.

The way to a conservative ascendancy is to change that morning polling data. That can only be achieved by releasing this country from the liberal death grip on information dissemination in the public and private domain while concurrently getting reasoned and viable conservative alternatives to the voters. As long as they control the sound bites and images that younger (education) and older (TV, news, movies, magazines, etc.) voters see, they will always have the upper hand and we will always be fighting for scraps from the occasional bone lady luck sends us.

Play the percentages. The rest of this ballyhoo about who is going to get the upperhand in arguing their viewpoint on FR is all heat and no light. It makes for good theater but rarely achieves victory.

Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America...

The above is about as relevant as our constitution. If truth in advertising laws were applied, the more accurate name for this forum would be "Free* Republican". *As Long As You Tow The Party Line.

Man, what on earth do you expect to accomplish with all that whining?

You can pretty much figure out what a thread is about by reading the title, you know. If it says something you disagree with, unless you're looking to be abused, don't post your opinions in it unless you do it with some amount of respect and decorum.

I'm not a Republican, a Democrat, a Libertarian, a Socialist, or a Fascist. I'm a Constitutionalist. I believe in the Constitution. I seldom even read the "Bush" threads because they are sloppy; like eating too much cotton candy sloppy. Like your article above is sloppy.

I honestly believe that you guys would give GW a pass on anything, without exception, and that's scary.

Bush let me down on his first week because he didn't undo all the unlawful Clinton land grabs. That is an important issue to me and that was really all I was hoping for, but it didn't happen. I didn't squawk about it because I didn't really expect him to restore the Constitution. He's not a Constitutionalist. He's a Moderate Republican, with business-oriented globalist leanings, and he has a whole lot of political obligations to fulfill.

The forum here is supposed to ba about an idea; conservatism, not about a man, any man. It's dangerous to follow after men.

Personally, I would be very disappointed to log into FR some morning only to find the page title reading:

BushRepublic.com "A GW Bush Praise Forum"

So call me a "Bush-Basher" if you want. That seems to be the most popular way to demonize and marginalize the critical voices these days. Call them names. Try and make them look stupid, then pat each other on the back, congratulating yourselves in how well you defended the honor of the President of the United States. Don't you think he can defend himself without your squelching of the critical vioces? How arrogant; How egotistical; How sophomoric.

When I chose to respond to you, I will do my level best not to respond with Bushbot or Republidrone. Because I am a mature man, with a temperate nature, it shouldn't be too difficult a task.

But, if your guy continues to ignore the Constitution; If he continues to permit his agents to steal land from people because some lunatic socialist thinks some bug's home might be disturbed, or if he sends F-Troop out to collect my guns, to mention a couple of no-compromise points, I will tell you about it. I will point out how the Constitution does not give him the authority to do these things. I will be civil in the telling, but I will tell.

One thing I will not do, is stand up in front of G-d, JR, and all the FReepers, demanding that those with whom I disagree be banned from this venue. This is going beyond the pale, and everyone who has joined their voices with you in agreement, should hang their heads in shame.

That is not what this place is about, and I hope and pray that we never become so narrow-minded as to let it become that way.
