An Open letter to Jim Robinson: Can the Bush-Bashers

Dear Mr. Robinson,

I have been a loyal member of the Free Republic since before the 2000 election. I have been a Conservative since the early days of Clinton. When I found this site, I thought "Thank God, people who think like me." I have continued to think this until the more recent days. Now, it seems that there are threads left and right bashing our President.

Why? There are things the President has done which I don't agree with but my loyality still lies with him. I am not sure if these "Bush-Bashers" fail to see the reality that with politics comes comprimise or it is something worse. I feel there is a cancer in the Free Republic. Some are eating their own.

I feel that some of these people are members of the dreaded democratic underground disguised as disgruntled conservatives. They are only here to stir up trouble. What's worse, they are doing just that. I am not sure what I think you should do.

As a conservative, I believe in our moral code but I also realize the reality of politics. I back our President but if he were doing something unsavory (like lying under oath,) I could not support him. This is unlike the left's clintonista dogma. What President Bush is doing is not betraying the conservative cause. He is using politics to confound the left. Those who do not understand this are either leftists themself or unable to separate themselves from their zealousness.

This is your show. You choose who gets to be a member and who does not. Those who break your rules are banished from the kingdom. I am not discouraging free speech, but this is free speech in your forum. These Bush-Bashers are brining us down. When this infighting happened in 1992, Bill Clinton got elected. let's not let that happen again.

Yours,

Big Guy and Rusty 99

Unless Bush gets his act together on fiscally conservative issues

Hmmm anyone in mind that fits your criteria?

The problem with your thinking is that there is now a divergence in being a supporter of the President and being a "conservative". Currently, you can't be both. Do you support President Bush or are you a conservative? The two are mutally exclusive. Sorry to break the news to you on this one.

If you support Bush, you can't call yourself a conservative. If you call yourself a conservative, how can you support Bush? Get it?

"yes, but these people are way out to lunch. I too enjoy intellectual jousting, however we are sometimes invaded by members of leftist newsgroups. This can not be allowed" By you? Whose site is this?

The other side got more votes in the last Presidential election. It will be more than a few terms before a "true" conservative gets elected.

Raising taxes and being a gun grabber tends to do that.....

Well, I guess we have no choice but to blame the voters he lost for him having lost them and losing to Clinton.

I wish FR had a logic section.

They seem to be on their own wavelength. His father learned nothing from RWR and W is plainly obviously undeniably a man with no plan, no center, no honor and less common sense.

Bush Sr. was definitely a lost cause from day one. Personally, I think that in his heart of hearts Bush Jr. does in fact generally have the proper values and convictions. It's simply the courage that's lacking. Washington D.C. in general, (and the power structure in particular) is intensely hostile to true conservatives; I think Bush probably underestimated just how much so. It takes a man of incredible Reaganesque courage and fortitude to hold out in this town for very long and not give in to expediency just to remain popular. The truth is that very few people are able to pull it off.

At the moment Ralph Nader would be better than Bush where fiscal conservatism is concerned.

Yet, there are so many here ( the noisiest ones !) who keep saying that they will NEVER vote for Bush again ( or thnat thney proudly NEVER did ) , and beg EVERYONE to NEVER vote for any Republican ; not ever . Some ( the politically naive, who seem to have a death wish / are masochists ) , gleefully say that they want the Dems to take complete control of ALL branches of government.

Jim is very misguided / confused, if he thinks that the bashing will lessen. It will only get worse; unless he puts his foot down by 2004. By then, FR will look like the mothership for DU ! Some nights, it looks like that now.

While I question some of his policy changes I don't question his honor. Look at Bill Clinton if you want to see lack of honor.

And why do we use Bill Clinton as our standard for decency and honor? He had neither.

Then YOU must have that long sought and so far not found "true" conservative definition. Would you please post it so all of these imposters can be unmasked?

There are millions of people who have been brainwashed by the liberals for several generations.

That won't change until we address liberal media and education dominance. Until that ship is righted, we will always be pushing the boulder up hill only to have it roll down the next election. When libs lose, they just push back harder the next opportunity.

The Liberal Media and Education System is the real enemy.

The strategy should be to get Republicans elected, retain control, especially the judicial branch, then weed out the RINOs.

Exactly! And it starts at the grassroots level -- we need to get local State Reps and Senators elected that support a conservative agenda and when they get experience then move on to Congress and the Senate. As they say -- all politics is local and we need to get really good conservative candidates that not only have a conservative agenda but are liked by the people they represent. Being mean and tearing people down is not going to get someone elected -- being friendly goes a lot further!

They are without a doubt disprupters. Its time for Jim to weed the garden.

Seems to me that the Flowers are getting pulled in this garden while the Weeds are getting plenty of water.
