Miss Universe is a lovely girl and Miss USA is very perky looking. Miss Teen OTOH looks older than both of them. Such a sullen expression she has.

1.395 mill will get you a nice little family house here in the Bay Area. May even have a little backyard if you're lucky.

What are the pageant judges thinking? What are the pageant moms thinking? Is this the look Jon-Benet Ramsey would have sported this year had she survived her treacherous childhood?

Yes, she does. I don't think I'd care to run into her anywhere. I'll bet she doesn't do much babysitting. LOL

Hiya LisaAnne -- I guess demure modesty is the first casualty in today's MTV stylized pageant world.

She looks like she's immersed in the lifestyle she supposedly escaped. This is a lot of trouble to overcome:

No one was more shocked than Marissa Whitley of Springfield, Missouri when she heard her name called as MISS TEEN USA® 2001. The confident and outgoing 18-year-old has already experienced and overcome more challenges than your average teen. “I’m especially proud of my ability to conquer adversity in order to achieve success,” says Marissa.

Marissa’s struggles began at the age of three when her mother died of a brain aneurysm. According to Marissa: “She was a woman who, even while struggling to raise a family, managed to help so many others. I know that everything happens for a reason, and from her death I have learned the importance of family, love and faith.” Then devastation struck again -- her father was killed in a drive-by shooting when Marissa was five. She and her three siblings were separated and shuffled among different relatives.

As MISS TEEN USA 2001, Marissa is uniquely up to the challenge of balancing her new responsibilities with school and friends. Though her brothers and sisters got involved in drugs, Marissa remained a pillar of strength, determined to succeed, she excelled in school and sports. Not only did Marissa graduate from high school with honors, she was a varsity athlete in basketball and track and was selected to attend the National Student Leadership Conference at Stanford University and The National Youth Forum on Medicine in Washington, DC. Marissa was also listed in “Who’s Who Among American High School Students.”

I remember when pageant judges were really accomplished, qualified people. This year one the judges for the final night of competiton at Miss Universe was the winner of the last Survivor show. Unbelievable. Made no sense until I realized that CBS airs both Survivor and Miss Universe but it is that sort of thing that destroys the credibility or integrity of a program like Miss Universe. It is a shame because pageants can be an open door to a better life for so many young women around the world.
