STEVENS POINT, Wis. May 31 Brandi Chastain, beware.
A Wisconsin track team could become as synonymous with the sports bra as the soccer player who stripped off her shirt at the World Cup.
The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association disqualified the Stevens Point Area Senior High School's 800-meter relay team after one of the runners wore an illegal sports bra. The association later reinstated the team.
The team of Jackie Kropp, Molly Sprouse and Emma and Kara Tauchman won the race at Thursday's sectional meet in Ashwaubenon by 9 seconds. But a meet official disqualified them because a runner had a sports bra that was white with one-quarter-inch black trim on the straps.
WIAA rules stipulate a visible sports bra must be one solid color, either black, gray or white.
WIAA executive director Doug Chickering said the association was served with an injunction Tuesday filed on behalf of the girls' parents, who wanted to stop the state meet unless the team was reinstated.
The association's legal counsel determined the rule will need to be rewritten because it is more restrictive for girls than boys, Chickering said.
Now that, I could understand...to some degree. But, it still doesn't have a substantive effect on the outcome of the race. Rather, it only demonstrates, once again, the "death of common sense" that runs rampant in our society these days.
You're going to have to fight with the vice principal from San Diego who has moved up from panties.
Rules like this have been on the books and enforced literally for decades. A relay team from my HS was once disqualified at a state meet because of it, and we always took great care to ensure that the "same uniform" rule was followed closely.
The rule's a bitch, but I think every relay team I've ever come into contact with was aware of it.
Never thought it would extend to underwear, though....
Agreed. If anything, the official probably should've informed the runner prior to the race that the bra didn't conform to rules - if she could change it in time, she could run. DQing her after the race makes no sense to me.
Of course, all that ignores the fact that 1/4" trim is no grounds for a DQ in the first place.
Good question...I don't know. If this is an 800-meter relay (and not a 4x800), I imagine she could manage 200 meters without a bra, and not do any major damage. Not that I know, since I'm a man.
Yes. It helped lift them to victory AND separate them from their competition.
Cross your heart?
Stay Safe !
Evidently she has plenty of support now, black stripe and all.
Would this be a Wonderbra? ;-)
I'm all for Rules are Rules .. but I will admit disqualifying someone because of the COLOR of her bra is a little over the edge
My next question is .. why are they more concerned with the color of her bra then how well she ran???
The boobs!
Yea might be; there's some , here.
Thanks; whadda friend you are, kid.
Imagine that, too: An *Illegal* Bra.
I've never met one of those kinds.
Did some things that might be considered illegal with 'em; but, never an illegal one, per se.
Wonder what one looks like...
Of course as you know, panties are my specialty (& forte'), scholar.
Just a little truth in lending, OK?
...but I do learn fast; and, am very trainable.
