Very cool picture, loddy. Switzerland has about 4 or 5 train routes with similar scenery. They simply take your breath away. At first I thought that one was the Glacier Express because of the view but I see it is the Bernina Express from Switerland into Italy.

Now what else might I be needing for the trip Nully, besides the purple hair dye, the nose and tongue rings and the "hugatree" t-shirt?

Val. She would be a great accessory for you and Nully, to assist you in 'getting to know' Nully. An icebreaker, if you will.

In The Early Days of Lemhi County, May 23, 2002, The Recorder Herald

50 Years Ago - 1952
* The 1952 Cancer Crusade has closed, with total proceeds beating the quota set for Lemhi county, Mrs. John Kapp, county chairman, reported today. A total of $1,603.43 was collected during the drive, for which the quota of $1,598.15 had been set.
* The new bridge across the Salmon river, on the Williams creek road, will be opened to traffic next week. Glen Thompson, supervisor of the Salmon National Forest said today.
* Mr. and Mrs. Paul McDermott, formerly of Challis, are now managing the North Fork Motel and Cafe, it was announced recently. The new motel, and the cafe and store were formerely managed by Mr. and Mrs. Ben Banks, who now reside in Salmon.

60 Years Ago - 1942
* Nine local gas stations have entered upon an agreement whereon only one of the nine will remain open each Sunday for the duration. This action is being taken in the hope that it may to some extent forestall the necessity of gasoline rationing in the area.
* The Motel DeLuxe, which has been opened for nearly a year by Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Kearsley, was sold last Saturday to Mrs. Bonita Send, who now has charge of the business.

70 Years Ago - 1932
* Charles Kane, Jr., age 5 years, located a yearling cub in the tree in the front yard of the Kane ranch about three miles up the Salmon river from this city. The bear was captured with some assistance of some of the neighbors and is now wearing a chain at the Kane ranch.
* The directors of the Challis bank closed the doors of that institution shortly before noon today to check a run on the bank, according to a telephone report from the Challis Messinger. No further details were available as we go to press.
* Bill Hoffman was up the creek looking after his irrigation water Monday.

80 Years Ago - 1922
* Mrs. Harry Kelly has received word that her grandson, Jack Grady, will spend a sixty-day furlough in Salmon from the Battleship Arizona. Jack says he is anxious to see the snow, of which he has been deprived for two years.
* At the Carmen creek school election held last Friday, the proposition to move the school received 15 votes for an 9 against. It is hoped to provide a new school site and vote bonds for a new school house.
* The people of Tendoy wish to extend their sympathy to the bereaved family of James Mahaffey. We have lost a kind friend and a good neighbor.

90 Years Ago - 1912
* Sheriff Mahaffey Monday evening picked up on our streets an alleged diamond thief. He gives the name Wm.Howe, and together with a lady accomplice is said to have swiped about $2000 worth of jewelry, presumably at Bozeman, Mont. The sheriff of Gallitan county will come for Howe, and will take him back as soon as extradition papers can be fixed up. The lady pal is already in jail in Bozeman.
* The sheriffs' force was all out of town yesterday on official business, and Mrs. Mahaffey, the sheriff's wife, was doing the role of jailer, taking care of the birds.

100 Years Ago - 1902
* The curfew bell was introduced Wednesday evening and from this time forth boys and girls of tender age are expected to be at their homes shortly after nine o'clock, or give a good excuse to the night policeman for their presence abroad.
* Wm.Damm's daughter, Grace, has scarletina and the whole Damm family is quarantined--Lawrence (Kas.) Daily News.
* Harry Bowers, the barber, has resigned his place in Swartz's shop and will go to work at the Eudora mine.

110 Years Ago - 1892
* Died--At Leesburg, Lemhi county, Idaho, on Saturday, May 29, 1892, Jas. K. Fuller, of heart disease. Aged about 48 years. Obituary next week.
* Mr. John J. Gilson, of Gibbonsville was in town on Monday. He was sent as a delegate to the special meeting of the County Commissioners to urge the building of the road between Fourth of July creek and the mouth of North Fork.
* A.A.Smith's lodging house is the only place where you can get comfortable lodging at 25 cents per night.
* The new dress of type for The Recorder has arrived and will be used next week.

**********

Of note this time...in the 60 Years, those same nine service stations in todays' world would be charged and tried under our anti-trust/monopoly rules.

The Charles Kane, Jr., mentioned in the 70 Years Ago section is the real estate salesman who helped me purchase my home here. The way the young bear was handled was common in rural areas back in those times. My Mother tells of when they lived in the Delta-Montrose area of Colorado that their cousins caught a young bear and raised it--it wrestled with them, and they finally sold it to a traveling show.

I also thought it interesting in the 70 Years ago to see that banks out here, in the boondocks faced the same problems which banks in general in that era faced and did what government regulations required in that circumstance.

I'm not certain--maybe some of you military fellas could help out here--in the 1980s there is mention of the Battleship Arizona.....is it possible this is the USS Arizona that was dealt its death blow at Pearl Harbor?

As usual, I find the words chosen by the newspaper to write an article interesting....especially in the 90 Years ago. And naturally, the wimmenfolk back then were unpaid helpmates to their husbands!

And, wouldn't we all like to know just how successfuly the CURFEW law was 100 years ago! Knowing discipline of years gone past, I daresay it was adhered to much more than today.

Just a guess, but anything with the word "Thong" would probably be acceptable.

Hey, nully. Did you get your garage cleaned out yet?

In progress. Already had two separate scuzbuckets ask if they could move in. *sigh*

Told the second one "Not NO, but F NO! Then he started in with, "I got a job and I pay my rent..." So I said "Maybe I didn't make myself clear. If the Archangel Gabriel came down and wanted to stay in my garage, I'd say NO!".

I think he got it...

The same. It still bleeds/weeps oil into the limpid waters of Pearl Harbor.
