Dark Horzizions (Movie news site) is reporting that Natalie Portman will appear on the 'Return of the Jedi-Star Wars Episode VI' Digital Video Disc.

Music Television apparently re-iterated rumours that Natalie Portman (Senator/Queen Padme Amidala) has signed on to be a part of the new scenes being filmed for 'Episode VI-Return of the Jedi'

She will shoot scenes during the production of Episode III ('Rise of the Empire?-ed.) which will then be re-inserted into the Digital Video Disc release of 'Jedi.'

Well, Lucas wasn't going to do the prequels either but changed his mind. I suspect that that there will more episodes.

You may be right. Lucas likes to milk his projects as much as possible. I just hope Star Wars doesn't get as bad as Star Trek in reference to Voyager and Enterprise. Paramount is still milking thier Trek cow long after they ran out of ideas.

I can see it from George's perspective, somewhat. It is not much different than having a director's cut of a movie come out. There were things that weren't technologically, or economically, possible at the time the original trilogy was made. I do think this should be it though. No more tinkering after this.

Have any of you seen the current digital version of "Return of the Jedi?"

Lucas added many new scenes to the final few minutes, showing cities on many planets celebrating the destruction of the Death Star.

What really irritated me was the new-age music they substituted for the original Ewok dance music in the final scenes.

"a little extra Natalie Portman here and there doesn't hurt at all!"

I second that emotion! Some other freeper said it best: "She is all kinds of hot" in the new star wars movie - and I agree. Saw her on Letterman a few weeks ago - she seems like a real sweet girl. She turns 21 in two weeks.

From IMDB:
Natalie Portman was born on June 9, 1981, in Jerusalem, Israel as the only child of a Doctor (father) and an artist (mother, who also acts as Natalie's agent). Natalie left Israel for Washington when she was still very young. After a few more moves, her family finally settled in New York, where she lived until her graduation from high school. She graduated with honors, and her academic achievements allowed her to attend Harvard. She was discovered by an agent in a pizza parlor at the age of 11. She was pushed towards a career in modeling but she decided that she would rather pursue a career in acting. She was featured in many live performances, but she made her powerful film debut in the movie Léon (1994) (The Professional). Following this role Natalie won roles in such films as Heat (1995), Beautiful Girls (1996) and Mars Attacks! (1996). It wouldn't be until 1999 when she received worldwide fame as Queen Amidala in the highly anticipated $431 million grossing Prequel Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999). Natalie next starred in two critically acclaimed comedy dramas Anywhere But Here (1999), and Where the Heart Is (2000).

Natalie Portman has a beautiful face, but she definitely needs a pair of "field upgrades" above the waist. This chick is as FLAT AS A BOARD.

Why did Qui-Gon and Anakin, upon death, remain corporeal, while Obi-Wan and Yoda vanished? That question was rumored to be answered in Ep2, and obviously wasn't.

According to my daughter who has read the endless stream of novels it all has something to do with choice, power, and opportunity.

I saw it in the theatre and didn't mind the remastered versions like the full Jabba the Hutt with Harrison Ford.

But inserting major characters is something different entirely.

Lucas has said that he's not going to release the original Star Wars trilogy on DVD until he's "fixed" them to mesh correctly with the prequel trilogy. This last week I've watched the original trilogy all over again after watching Episodes I and II and Lucas certainly has his work cut out for him. He's got continuity violations all over the place. I actually welcome the updates to the original trilogy to remove the painful continuity breaks.

I also suspect - you heard it from me first - that in the next decade at least one film from the original trilogy will be redone entirely in CGI with the trilogy being completed in CGI within the next 2 decades.

Unfortunately, I've read a rumor that Jar-Jar is supposed to coordinate the pulling down of Palpatine's statue at the end of super-duper DVD ed. of ROTJ.

In regard to the article, Portman could appear as a flashback in either the scene where Leia tells Luke about her memories of her mother (indicating that she does not die until after Ep. III), or during Luke's final duel with Vader where he (Vader) looks back and forth from Luke to Palpatine and finally decides to toss the emperor into the core.

A farther out theory I've seen is that Amidala is Mon Mothma (the 50ish woman in white giving the military briefing before the attack on the second Death Star).

Hey; this opens-up all sorts of opportunities. How about inserting Chris Rock into "The Sand Pebbles" or Paulie Shore into "A Raisin in the Sun"?

She could be in a flashback, I think her death in Ep 3. will be the thing to really send Ani over the edge, especialy if it can be made to look like her death is somehow the fault of the Jedi. If she was still alive in 4,5 &6, I would expect her to be more able to turn Ani back than Luke.

What I really want to see if Jar-Jar's death, if they don't kill him in Ep. 3, I hope they edit Ep 4. and put him at ground zero on Alderan.
