Haven't checked but that's a good idea. I think we'll be looking north of here, I'm thinking Napa. Silverado Trail.

Good grief! Do you HAVE to live there? You could own serious acreage elsewhere for half a mil! My word.

I want a place where I can have a small room for cats and plants - especially orchids. I have a few orchids now, as many as I can fit in the bathroom, where they do nicely, but I'd like more. And I want a nice sunny place for the kitties!

For now, I do have to live here. I'd have to be divorced to move! We can find a good-sized home (no acreage) around the Fairfield area for around $300K, so we'll look there, as well as Napa. The area we are renting in now is very high priced.

I remember seeing an article about a tiny little place in Palo Alto a couple of years ago. It was a one bedroom little cottage on an itty bitty lot. They had listed it around 450K, and it had been bid up to 600K. Just appalling.

Yep. It's totally out of control around here. We put our house on the market and it sold in 4 days, for over what we were asking for it.
Now I have to find something that I can afford to keep from giving all my money to the government. I have found a couple townhomes, 1300 sq ft, 2 bedrooms for just under $400,000. How's that for insane?

dang it! I was stuck on post 300 thinking everyone had gone silent. I never do that! I've gone 12 days without any wine and my brain is thirsty.

LOL. A room for cats and orchids. That's great. You know, I may try some orchids in my kitchen window. That's a good idea. I have fairly small kitchen but a large, multi-paned window. Its about 4 1/2 feet wide and goes all the way to the ceiling, the ceilings are 9'. It has great, difused morning light and bright afternoon sunlight. I've thought about putting plantation shutters in there. I love the open look in the daytime but it makes me just a little nervous at night.
