My brother in law has a brother that looks a lot like the dude.
And acts a lot like him too.
He's for drug legalization.

I take it you dont watch oprah! (just kidding). My dad gave me a credit card to buy school clothes one time. I bought a record album and some blank tapes.. I had no idea the monthly bill itemized the purchases. I lost his trust for a long time and felt horrible about it.

I'm sure he voted for gore, at least three times.

I think I would have been happy if he had bought that!! By look of the eyes and the pastey sounding mouth, I was quite sure it was something else. The something else, I hate to even type.

I went through a stage with Dawn that was just awful. She left her husband and moved home with Tyler. Next thing I know she's out partying all the time and she thinks because she's a grown "woman" having been married and all that I had no right to challenge what she was doing, never mind the little detail that she was taking no responsibility for her son whatsoever. Then just when I thought I couldn't take any more, she got in a bad car wreck out cruising around Boulder, Colorado at 3:30 AM, (after a rave). It was a very difficult time. Her dad decided it was time for him to play the hero and she moved in with him. Tyler stayed with me. Next thing I know, the ex is partying with the kids. Great example huh?
Anyway, I really sympathize. You do the best you can by them, and sometimes they just seem to turn on you and it's like you don't even know them any more. I just keep falling back on the scripture that says "train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it." It doesn't, however, say that they will never stray. It is very painful when they do though.

He voted in Florida and Michigan...
Lord knows how many votes the nimrod had.
Kind of sick.

Actually occ, I KNOW he definitely feels terrible about it. That was pretty obvious this morning!! So maybe all is not lost. In fact it isn't - I just didn't expect it as I have been able to trust him with my card for quite awhile now.

That is the very one I reminded God of last night. In addition to praying for his safety. Funny how you would like to hurt them yourself but don't want anything bad to happen to them. Part of being a parent I guess. Your situation sounds really stressful indeed. At least my husband and I are on the same page and present a united front.

It's really tough to see them screw up like that. Kind of pokes a hole in you deep down in some ways.
Bill cosby says it's an ancient curse.
ANGRY MOM: "I hope you grow up and have children just like you"
Works every time it's uttered.

got up, opened the door and punched him right in the chest OMG ... You punched him .. in the chest .. LOL

Hi Lynn... my problem child is the 15 yr old now. He is 6'2" 235 pounds and cannot be trusted for 5 minutes with as much as one dollar. I sent one of his friends home today and told him not to come back (they were admiring his new bong) - summer is off to a great start. We'll have to take lots of little road trips in addition to the big one just to keep him with me and out of trouble....

"Funny how you would like to hurt them yourself but don't want anything bad to happen to them." Reminds me of an old Garfield cartoon. Neighborhood cat kicks Odie. Garfiled beats up neighborhood cat. Garfield says: "nobody abuses Odie but me!"
To: Prentice
""I hope you grow up and have children just like you" I put a worse one on Dawn. I told her I hope she grew up and had one just like ME! And Tyler is so much like me it's scary!
To: Canadian Outrage
Actually occ, I KNOW he definitely feels terrible about it. Whatever you do .. string this out for as long as you can .. let him know you are really pissed off
My mom uses the silent treatment .. she won't even acknowledge we are in the room

My trump card is that I can still thrash each of them and they know it. The important thing is they know it. Before a boy reaches puberty you need to have them conditioned so that when you use the command voice tone their eyes dialate and they feel faint. If your tone of voice can invoke primal fear, you never have to use force.
I never even spanked my kid after he was 8 or 9, I didn't have to. He is still sure that if he pushes me too far I will hit him and that if he ever hit me back I would kill him. He is still sure of the same things about his mother.

I was a complete A-hole as a teenager except I never got hurt and rarely got caught. My life turned around when I started hanging around different friends. I would keep an eye on who your son hangs around with, although there is not a whole lot you can do about that if you are at work as my parents were.
To: ValerieUSA
Every once in a while I remember what a pain I must have been (was) to my parents.
One of the Psalms begs God to forgive the "sins of my youth"
I can handle that one....
To: Servant of the Nine
You got it....
We never had to spank after that time either.
They still had their share of little stuff....but I think we've been pretty lucky so far.

I was really hoping my kids would make good friends here, and Gavin seems to have started hanging with a smarter crowd - but Garrett hangs with idiots. Oh well, he won't be spending any time with them this summer. I'll have to run this house like a boot camp.
