Try again .. I know the guy and he has been whacked out of his mind due to years and years of doing drugs
I know another guy who has the mind of a 10 year old because of years and years of drug use
I know another guy who would steal from his friends and rob houses due to years and years of drug use
Shall I continue???
And for each of them, I can describe a half dozen normal people who use drugs recreationally, with NO ill after-effects. And who have for MANY years.
Shall I continue??

I DO hope that you were kidding, with that response.

You have both parents, loddy had both parents -- but more and more kids do not have fathers in their lives to give kids a two-parent defense against drugs and other pressures that can lead to long term drug abuse.
The desire for escapism from a sucky life can hit young people before they have developed the strength of character to resist and live through hard times to other side, gaining maturity and wisdom and achieving something along the way. My kids had a sucky life early on when they had to deal with years of a terminal illness and then death in their immediate family.
From what I see, the people whose lives are being ruined by drug abuse started young when they perceived their lives were ruined already --- the drama of selfish youth makes personal troubles loom larger than life. Once caught up in the effects of drugs and that convenient escapism the incentive to grow up and learn and move on is gone.... I don't know how to reach through the haze and defiance to give them a different message.

You've got my prayers for your lovely little angels. Do whatever you have to do to keep them that way in their spirit. JL Thanks for the prayers and yes I will do whatever I have to .. I figure they can hate me for it but that is ok just as long as they are happy healthy and can one day see their children grow up ..
And you are right .. things out there are worse then the were in my day also

Have you had you third pot of coffee today?? Caffein is a drug, you know. Good try but that is BULL and you cannot compare coffee to cocaine or heroine

While they won't listen to my message - but they hear your message loud and clear - "It's MY life, leave me alone!"
Just how sorry are you that my kids (and so many other kids) are "being that way"? They would be thrilled to hear how you coasted through college while high. Give them a call sometime and tell them, then they can repeat it to me the next time I toss a bong into the trash.

Hehehe. It's that mutilation story.
Sorry, I don't mean to make light of this discussion. Ratty, intellectually I see your point but I'm afraid I have to agree with Mo and Valerie on this issue. I've just seen too many lives ruined and too many gifted people destroyed by the use of drugs. True, they abused drugs but drugs are the root of so much pain and loss.

Oh and then there are the drug invested neighborhoods .. come up to Philly sometime ... I'll show you all these lovely neighborhoods
And collectivism CAUSED those neighborhoods full of States' wards.
No matter how much y'all try the neo-collectivist angle, THIS country was founded on Individual's rights, and any time you argue otherwise, you are arguing against our original beliefs.
The founding fathers KNEW that not every person was able to be rehabilitated and they rightfully saw that the Government was not the vehicle to use, when trying to help them, or underprivileged people.
BOTH of you women claim to be religious, but throughout this whole issue y'all have whined about the damage done to people by drugs, all the while advocating MORE intrusion onto our lives by the government, as a solution.
You see a problem, and you IMMEDIATELY look to the People's Government for a solution, like the good little mindless collectivist drones that you are.
But it is the CHURCH and OTHER charitable organizations that are the place to turn to, for help with people who can't function due to addiction. Why throw them in jail, where they ARE a victim class member??
To: gratefulwharffratt
Why would they listen to a preacher of the Gospel, when they could spend their time reading High Times?
To: gratefulwharffratt
Drug abuse is in competition with Jesus for the hearts and souls of young people --- you've chosen your side, and I've chosen mine. I know the Enemy in its many forms. It takes strength of character to battle temptations... and the power of the Holy Spirit. But being high invites other spirits in.... and lowers resistance to other temptations, too.
To: gratefulwharffratt
Shall I continue?? Yes I know folks that do drugs STILL and it is not a big effect .. but the ones that are whacked out of their minds out number the casual drug users
Shall I tell you about the guy I knw who killed another friend of mine after he drove his car into a telephone poll because he was whacked out on drugs???

I don't know how to reach through the haze and defiance to give them a different message.
I understand what you are saying Val, and I understand why anybody around Mo would want to cut off their pecker, but PROHIBITION by the GOVENRMENT is NOT the solution. Have you ever tried telling them that if they are gonna get high, then they MUST be excellent students, and good citizens also, if they want to stay off your shit list??
You keep saying "they can't," and they keep saying "we are," so what else can you do?? If it stops being a big issue with you, and their grades don't suck and they are in no trouble... then maybe it wouldn't split the family apart so badly.
Families since time immemorial have had to deal with alcohol addiction. They managed, despite the difficulties.
Move them so far out in the country, that they have to grow their own, in order to find it.

I am not sorry for them at all. I am sorry that it is causing you pain and suffering, and that if they get caught, they will be in legal trouble, but I do not feel sorry for people who make decisions.
People who make decisions and are responsible for them, rarely want my sympathy, either.
Hopefully they won't follow in my footsteps, but if you knew me better, you would know that worse things could happen to them than to hold a couple of bachelor degrees. And your abstinence policy might not be the ONLY way. They MIGHT be able to take tests high, and still score an 'A.' It sure calmed my jittery nerves down, right before test time.
My path through life has been my burden to bear, and your sons all have their own paths to follow. It is not easy.

Oh give me a break on the religious stuff .. And for the record I never claimed to be that good of a catholic .. I'm still working on that
I never STATED that I thought the laws on the books now regarding drugs were were great .. many of them are stupid and need to be thrown out
But with that said .. you will never get me to agree that drugs are a good thing

Why is one mutually exclusive of the other??
To: gratefulwharffratt
Do you think they care if they are on my sh!t list? NO! Since when do stoned kids CARE? Do you think they would stay in the country if I moved them there? They are bigger than I am. They have doper friends who will help them sell stuff until they land in jail for getting other kids high. Oh, do you mean drugs should only be illegal for minors, but not adults? Juvies can be full of dopers, but not adult jails? Kids who fall into the trap are criminals, but not 23 yr olds?
I'm not the evil collectivist you think I am. I haven't turned my own kids in to the "authorities" or their friends.
