Thread 304
As for packing for a trip...I am a last minute packer...even when we would go on a full blown camping trip, with tent, sleeping bags, stove, and all accessories, plus all our personal things, I would always let it go until about two days before we were schedules to leave....
The only thing I ever did ahead of time, was buy the canned goods and foods I would need for cooking...
But when I was a kid, my mom would begin packing for our trips, weeks ahead of time...she drove me nuts...everyone just has their own way of doing things, I guess...
I am sure you will be fine, no matter how soon or how late you pack....Sounds like you are just going to have a most exciting trip, seeing sights along the way, getting to be with your 'navy son'...I am excited for you, as I know the exciting feeling that comes, when one is heading off for a few weeks of sightseeing, camping, and seeing loved ones...
I love camping...love to sit out at night, with a big campfire, smelling the woods, drinking beer, and having a fine time...I think kids love to go camping also...both my boys were camping and sleeping in tents before they could walk...
You may find this weird, but every year, when we crack out the tent, and get to our first campground of the summer, I have to run into the tent when its just been put up, and take in a big smell...I dont know what it is, but I love to smell the tent when its been taken out of the garage, and finally allowed to air out in the campground...
You are going to have a wonderful time, I just know it..
Is that anything like mashing buttons?
I like travelling from point A to point B without much more of plan than that - A to B. Then figure out B to C in the morning. I'm flexible. However, people at my destination spots are not always so flexible about arrival times. "I'll be there Thursday or Friday or Sunday, either in the afternoon or not," makes hosts crazy (even reservation clerks aren't understanding).
I am sure Ratty would be much more respectful if we had that picture of your buttons to train with. If it was a really good picture he would probably take his hat off and hold it over his heart he would be so full of respect.
Or maybe a plaster cast to practice mashing on for the big Steel Cage Match.

I'll handle that part for ya Val.

I prefer your plan of trying to get from point A to point B and planning little else in between...when I was a kid, my dad and mom always had a strict intinerary and tried to stick to it as much as possible...my husband and I tho, are just the opposite...we plan, like you, from point A to point B, and like to see what pops up in between...its more spontaneous and the kids loved it...they said, they never knew from day to day, what they were going to see or do, because even we, ,the parents did not know...it was always like a grand adventure...and immense fun for all of us...
But you are right, often reservations and places, and hosts waiting for ones arrival are not so appreciative of their visitors showing up whenever..
HUH? All I've indicated is that I wasn't going to let age be a deciding factor.....I don't see age affecting the concept of a Mr. Right. Rather, it would be more appropriate for a Mr. You'll Do because you fall into a certain age bracket!
IF there was a 25 year old that I found appealing based on the important things like religion, politics, family, morals, maturity, etc., and he was likewise interested in moi, I certainly wouldn't tell him goodbye because he's only 25! Ditto should I find someone appealing or fascinating in the older age ranges of 60s and 70s or 80s even. There are MORE IMPORTANT things than age.
You are a fine photographer with a tripod and a camera with a self timer.
But as long as you have to start from scratch, you might as well do the plaster cast. A plaster mold and some of the silicon foam that special effects people use and you can get amazingly lifelike results in very little time.
Be a sport Val, Ratty needs the practice.

" If some man comes along older or younger than me who can live with all my bullshit and I can live with all his, I'm not accepting or turning it down because someone thinks I'm too old or I'm too young"
For the longest time, I've been perfectly content doing my own thing... :)
