That being said, HI! everyone!!!

When I was working at a paper, the scandals were abuses of boys at all the state homes for delinquent youth. Those kids had been abused by adults and other kids for years - many of them now dead of AIDS and cannot ever tell.

Someone mentioned getting something from someone in the washington state legislature yesterday that had a virus in it --- was it you? I just remembered that I have a friend in the legislature who is in my e-mail address book. grrrrr... I sent her a warning, too - I sent a warning to everyone in my address book to clean out the virus and gave them the symantec link.

So far my husband and two boyfriends have given me handguns. I wonder why. I guess it means they trusted me.

Yep -- that's the one in my address book.

I have a lovely friend from Puerto Rico. She's a beautiful woman from a large successful family, private school education, happily married to a very successful American sports entrepaneur. She has always lived and traveled in very secure circles. So, it isn't likely that this woman has ever personally experiened any real prejudice, she's had a privileged, somewhat sheltered life. But the stigma of a racist South is long standing and hard to overcome. On her first visit to New Orleans a few years ago she told me she had had some reservations about going that deeply into the "Old South". To say she was enlightened and pleasantly surprised is an understatement. While there she and her husband had dinner with a couple of black Saints players who just laughed over her concerns. They told her on occasion they run across a 'pocket' of racism in the South but it doesn't happen often. They said it is easy to identify, it's very upfront unlike in the North where, in their opinion, it is more prevalent but hidden.

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Three stowaways, one dead and two badly dehydrated, were found Friday on a ship in the Columbia River, apparently traveling from Colombia in the ship's rudder compartment, immigration officials said.

Wow - it's happening already
Shoppers headed for the West Seattle Thriftway Wednesday can leave their credit cards, debit cards and checks at home. They just need to make sure to bring their index fingers.
The supermarket will be the first in Washington and one of the first in the nation to use a biometrics system -- finger scanning -- to tie consumers to their credit cards, electronic benefit cards and checking accounts, says the maker of the system, Indivos of Oakland, Calif.
"The main thing is, it's fast, it's easy, and it's secure," says Paul Kapioski, West Seattle Thriftway owner.
Consumers enroll in the system by putting their index finger on an image reader, which runs digital information for 13 points on the finger through a formula, and stores the encrypted information on Indivos servers. Consumers register whichever cards or accounts they want associated with their finger scan.
"It takes about one minute to enroll," Kapioski said. Enrollment begins Wednesday and is strictly voluntary, he emphasized. Wary customers still will be able to pay the old-fashioned way if they want.

Accused of rape, but still getting paidThe DNA evidence points to him for a heinous crime, but he still gets paid -- he's a state gov't employee.

Isn't that unreal? At least it's not a tatoo on the forehead that gets scanned.

Hey Val...thanks for the link concerning abuse in the Schools for the Deaf...have bookmarked it for further reading, as it looks like quite a very long article...
Weather here today in Olympia, is crappy, chilly, and wet...ah typical spring weather, altho last weekend was beautiful, fairly warm, and sunny....
We spent three days last week up in Seattle, as it was the hubbys birthday, and what better way to spent it than with a visit to see the son...we went out to some great restaurants, ate lots of crab, prawns, salmon and steaks...and washed it down with locally brewed beer...
Of course we are always obligated to take a 'growler' of local brewed beer back with us to the motel, for further consumption and study....
The hubby and son went to a Mariners game at Safeco Field, and of course, while waiting for traffic to thin out, they found a pub across the street, where they could wait, and of course drink a pint or two of whatever struck their fancy....
We will be heading up to Mt.Rainier on Mothers Day....for years that is where we spent Mothers Day...up in the snow and the mountains...we bring fried chicken, salads, hard boiled eggs, crusty french bread, and chips, and of course, wash it all down with some favorite brew...a delightful way to spend Mothers Day...
And finally, one of the eagles eggs, up in the Kent nest has hatched...it hatched yesterday...today I finally got a look at the little one, when mom eagle(I presume it was mom on the nest, while dad is off searching for food), got up to check the little one, and the other still unhatched egg...its very fun and exciting to watch all of this...I dont know how to link, but will give you the website addy, so click on and have hopefully a glimpse of a baby eagle...so will just type out the addy.....it is...http://www.wa.gov/wdfw/wildwatch/....click on and enjoy...

I miss the lattes and the microbreweries of the Pacific Northwest -- and Mt Rainier.
Your outing for your husband's birthday sounds like so much fun. When Greg had to go to Seattle to meet with some doctors about 7-8 years ago he was feeling pretty good, so we made a weekend of it. It was a blast staying in the big city and seeing all the sites and stopping by the nightspots (the kids were at my mom's) and trying not to be too obvious as country hicks. *LOL* Even though we both grew up in Olympia/Lacey, we had lived in Mossyrcok for so long by then that it showed.
