Installed the first candidate for a chat program.

Out of the box this is ugly! But it is open source, and I can fix the ugliness.

The name of this product is NFC Chat, written by Lyrisoft Solutions, Inc. Source, etc available here

It supports chat rooms.

When you first sign in, it takes you to a list of rooms. Click a room to enter chat mode.

NFC Chat Commands

Completely exit the program	/quit
Join or create a room	/join <room> [<password>]
Get some stats about the server	/stats
Send a private message	/msg <user> <message>
Get a list of all the users in a room	/who <room>
Leave a room	/leave <room>
Perform an action	/me <message>
Perform a private action	/mesg <user> <message>
Get a list of all the rooms	/rooms
Determine the round trip time of a message	/ping <user>
Get a list of all the users	/users
Get some information about a user	/whois <user>
Request help	/help [<command>]
Boot a user off the system	/kill <user> [<message>]
Give (or take away) room operator privileges	/op [<room>] <+|-> <user>
Kick a user out of a room	/kick [<room>] <user>
Ignore a user.	/ignore <user> [<message>]
Un-ignore a user	/unignore <user>

Up at the top of this page, it says "Click here for Beta Chat" or something along those lines. Click there, it should take you to the sign in page.

Where it has a list of chat users at the top of the page left side click OK. That should get you in.

Hey y'all. Thought you might want to check this out. Since John is experimenting with chat rooms I suggested to him that he give ichat a try. How about some input.

It works well for me and I'm running a firewall. I had to accept the Java applet (mine's set to prompt).

It is a little hard to tell which is the login button, though, because of that tiny, yellow font on the light background.

Not bad but my op chat room disappears if I log out. Can't it stay in existence for next time?

I played around a bit- it seems speed picked up but fonts are a bit small. I am no chat room pro though.
