it seems like the whole damn language is under attack

Couldn't agree more. One word that has become so popular post 9-11 is "hero." Today the media managed to refer to every sailor on the Roosevelt as a "hero." As retired military, I appreciate the media giving favorable coverage to our military. But if every person there doing a job is a "hero," what was Sgt York? What was Audie Murphy? What shall we call the men and women who, in future desperate situations, put it all on the line without regard to their personal safety?

catpuppy I'm really sick of the word "hero" also. Everybody, no matter what they do, rescue a dog, cat, person, etc. anything - is a hero. Nobody today even knows what a REAL HERO is.

You are correct, pup. And how can guys who are paid a fortune to play a game they'd frankly play for nothing if given the choice between a real job and playing the game...be called heros?

I'm frankly sick of these news readers and talking heads--and yes, even politicians who try to tell us that spending less than anticipated is a cut!
