A young hotshot gets a job with the IRS. His first assignment is to audit an old rabbi.
He thinks he'll have a little fun with the old rabbi , so he says, "Rabbi, what do you do with the drippings from the candles?"
The rabbi says, "We send them to the candle factory, and every once in a while they send us a free candle."
The kid says, "And what do you do with the crumbs from your table?"
The rabbi says, "We send them to the matzoh ball factory, and every once in a while they send us a free box of matzoh balls."
The kid says, "And what do you do with the foreskins from your circumcisions?"
The rabbi says, "We send them to the IRS, and every once in a while they send us a little prick like you."

I haven't had to shoot my modem yet - I think the mere threat of being blasted to bits by a projectile from the muzzle of a .45 auto caused a change in performance. Wednesday afternoon, I gave it one more shot (no pun intended) - I unplugged the power cord from the modem for several minutes, plugged it back in and it's been operating properly ever since. I had done all the other things - rebooting, shutting down all but necessary start-up programs, and the modem reset, to no avail. Now it's fine. I hope it lasts. I get soooooooooo annoyed - and it's not safe to annoy me!

Have fun at the party Loddy. Hurry back.

While I haven't tried using my pistol on any pieces of equipment--at least not yet--, I have been known to take the small sledgehammer to a sewing machine that crossed me once too often!
I'm with you.....equipment/tools should function properly--especially when taken care of. I don't like to be fooled around with by some piece of equipment or tool!!

A lot of times I wish that I had a Mac, a lot of times!
Libby, mercifully the party is not until Sunday afternoon. Maybe by then some "emergency" will arise that requires my attention - I can hope. ;-)

I had done all the other things
I am sorry, but when you said that you had disconnected it, I thought you HAD unplugged it. Or I would have already recommended that.
Occasionally I have to do that too. Like once every 8-10 months. Merely switching it off won't do it, it has to be totally unplugged. I have seen a few external analog modems require that occasionally too.
Next time it acts up, try unplugging it before you try any fancy schmancy start-up program finagling.

*L* Well you can see how much effort he put into impressing me last night - he ran away. I am so scary. BOO!
To: gratefulwharffratt
Ratty, I HAD unplugged the modem, more than once. The thing is just perverse. It's been fine now for a whole two days.

How old is your neighborhood? Your place??

When bootie duty calls, I can only solve one problem at a time.
I will get to Val directly, anticipation will only whet her appetite.
To: lodwick
That's funny, loddy!

Our place was built in the 70's, and many of the buildings around here are older. Not a new neighborhood.

"you can see how much effort he put into impressing me last night - he ran away." Hehehe....maybe it's just that he's all talk. BTW, you never answered my question the other night about Fotki. I was considering upgrading it, but I'm not going to if my pictures are still gonna disappear. How is it working for you? Is that what you're using now or are you still using bystander's server? I need to do something different. Photo Fun canceled one of my accounts for using it to link images. I don't get it. What is the point of having an image server if you can't use it for the purpose of linking images?
