Elves fled their city when attacked by multiple Balrogs, Dragons, and hordes of Orcs. Plus, Maeglin showed the bad guys the way in. Dwarves fled from.... one Balrog. Heck, there have been Elves who defeated Balrogs in single combat! True, they all died themselves doing it, but the point is, Elves are much cooler than Dwarves.

Even around "flaming" Balrogs? Hehehehe.

I'd like to have seen Legolas (aka Mr. Ginsu) take on the Balrog in single combat. Didn't he drop his bow at the site of it?

I should like any of your advice on something. I want to read all of Tolkien's books and wondered in what reading order I would find his books the most enlightening and profitable.
I have read The Hobbit, The Fellowship of the Ring, and The Two Towers. Return of the King is being shipped to me now. I'm looking for suggestions for the most logical order to read Tolkien's works after RotK. Thanks in advance, and anyone whom I didn't ping, please feel free to reply.
