I'd like to have seen Legolas (aka Mr. Ginsu) take on the Balrog in single combat. Didn't he drop his bow at the site of it?

Legolas couldn't take on a Balrog.... only High Elves of terrible power can do that. Like Glorfindel; he fought one at Gondolin and died. And Echthelion of the Fountain, same thing.

When I saw FotR again tonight, I watched the cave troll / orc fight scene more intently. (There is so much happening in that fight!). I noticed for the first time how Legolas was given the opportunity of doing much of the damage to the cave troll -- Jackson was so proud of the job they did creating that troll ;-) -- and how little of the work went to Gandalf.
