I just ordered a collection of Tolkien's stories. It's got Smith of Wootton Major, Farmer Giles of Ham, Tree and Leaf (includes "Leaf by Niggle"), The Adventures of Tom Bombadil: 16 poems from the Red Book—some supposedly written by Sam Gamgee and Bilbo Baggins, and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight

Ohhh, neat. Tell me how Sir Gawain is, I've only ever read abridged and prose versions.

Hah! Taco time!

and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight

The kids are going to be reading that when we get to Medieval Studies. I just found out yesterday that Tolkien had written a version. We'll definitely be using that one.

We got a DVD from Netflix last week that was a National Geographic look at Lord of the Rings and the areas of the world that inspired Tolkien in its writing. It was the first time our daughter had heard the connection between the "Kalevala" from Finland and LOTR. I thought we had mentioned that to her last year sometime, but I guess not. I'll have to add the "Kalevala" to her Medieval studies as well! Check your DVD rental places to see if you can find it. It was very interesting. The Finland part was interesting because that was where Tolkien got the inspiration for the language of the Elves.
