I am home and tired... or drugged up on Tryptophan... Heh.
But the ponies are fed and put to bed and I am catching up. Good thing it was a slow day here because I don't have much endurance!
Glad you saw the trailer Rose! There is an Oliphant in TTT!
`Were there any oliphaunts?' asked Sam, forgetting his fear in his eagerness for news of strange places.`No, no oliphaunts. What are oliphaunts? ' said Gollum. Sam stood up, putting his hands behind his back (as he always did when 'speaking poetry'), and began:
Grey as a mouse,
Big as a house.
Nose like a snake,
I make the earth shake,
As I tramp through the grass;
Trees crack as I pass.
With horns in my mouth
I walk in the South,
Flapping big ears.
Beyond count of years
I stump round and round,
Never lie on the ground,
Not even to die.
Oliphaunt am I,
Biggest of all,
Huge, old, and tall.
If ever you'd met me
You wouldn't forget me.
If you never do,
You won't think I'm true;
But old Oliphaunt am I,
And I never lie.'That,' said Sam, when he had finished reciting, `that's a rhyme we have in the Shire. Nonsense maybe, and maybe not. But we have our tales too, and news out of the South, you know. In the old days hobbits used to go on their travels now and again. Not that many ever came back, and not that all they said was believed: news from Bree, and not sure as Shiretalk, as the sayings go. But I've heard tales of the big folk down away in the Sunlands. Swertings we call 'em in our tales; and they ride on oliphaunts, 'tis said, when they fight. They put houses and towers on the oliphauntses backs and all, and the oliphaunts throw rocks and trees at one another. So when you said "Men out of the South, all in red and gold;" I said "were there any oliphaunts? " For if there was, I was going to take a look, risk or no. But now I don't suppose I'll ever see an oliphaunt. Maybe there ain't no such a beast.' He sighed."
Hope you both, and everyone had, a nice Thanksgiving!
The old dogs stayed home and slept off the day on the couch I suspect, both my two old dogs, and a friend's old labrador I am sitting for the weekend. I don't think they minded too much not being put through all that with the kids!
Wow. I didn't know about that either!
Oh, and we start in on the leftovers!
Now THAT would be a picture, Bay and the Pony in blinking reindeer antlers!!
Most of the state got anywhere from 3-6 inches. We live down in South County (or the Southfarthing, as I like to call it...lol), about a mile from the ocean, so we didn't get as much as the inlanders. However, it all turned over to some freezing rain late Wednesday, so things were very icy yesterday morning.
Thanksgiving was a blast. We went to my mom's, then over to my step-father's place afterwards. A good time was had by all.
I laughed, I cried, I ate three kinds of pie. lol
I hope all my fellow HH'ers had a wonderful holiday. Good on ya!
I bet you guys' stuff is better.
Well maybe not right now, but thanks for saying so. As soon as I finish with this crap I'll have to do some major fixing.
On the writing front I only got 745 words done yesterday so now I'm at 46246. The dinner went okay (except the dressing was a bit on the crumbly side) and everyone seemed to like the chocolate cocanut cake. The "piano sister" came down with the kids and got to watch the SE for the first time. They liked it much better than the theatrical release and I'm going to make a tape for them. On the down side my sister wants her Tolkien books back. :( So now I guess I'll have to get my own copy of The Letters.
I have the feeling that there's a viewing of AOTC in my immediate future.
Other events: My brohter (aka "Boromir") ended up in the emergency room with a dislocated finger he got playing touch football. [shakes head in disbelief]
