One of my MOST favorite lines in the movie is Boromir saying
"It is not yours save by unhappy chance. It might have been mine! It should have been mine! Give it to me!"
I'm quoting it from there book, here, but it sounds word for word in the movie! When I first heard it, I went "YES! Tolkien!" I think PJ had to understand that these phrases are dear to us fans and hearing them is an incredible feeling!

My father is a noble man, but his rule is failing. And then our... our people lose faith. He looks to me to make things right, and I, I would do it. I would see the glory of Gondor restored. You know, the more I hear and see of Boromir the more I like him. He seems to represent Everyman. We want to do things right and we have noble goals and aspirations, but then our fallen nature gets in the way and mucks everything up.
Boromir was in torture and torment until he recognized and pledged fealty to Aragorn (in a Christ-like sort of way). Then he was able to die in peace, restored.
Personally, I blame it all in Denethor. He put WAY to much weight on Boromirs shoulders. Looks like Denethor pinned the survival of all of Gondor on the ability of Boromir. And Boromir, being the dutiful son, took up the burden as his own. Reminds me of Robert the Bruce and his father in Braveheart.

Oh boy! Denethor bashing!
To: Overtaxed
I tried to start up some Celeborn bashing in #3317, but nobody took the bait. ;^)
To paraphrase the old Christmas rhyme: "Bash away! Bash away! Bash away all!"

I especially like the part where Boromir says "Why do you recoil? I am no thief!" And then he tries to take the Ring by force because it
should have been his. He was trying to justify taking the Ring, because it was against his nature to outright steal it. It is that way with so many things that are probably wrong for us...
Like bootleg videos...[cringe] ;-)

Did anyone else see Cate Blanchett in that Billy Bob Thornton movie
Bandits? My wife and I watched it this past weekend. As I was watching I kept wondering "Why is Galadriel wearing a red wig and robbing a bank?" It just goes to show you that you think you know someone and then.....

"Bash away! Bash away! Bash away all!" Can I use this?

The flanged one is what I'd like to have when I answer the door.

Yeah, just like that. ;^)
That is one reason that I am glad that I am limited by having a dial-up account. I know that I would have the 1.4GB version downloaded without giving it a second thought. ;^)

"Why is Galadriel wearing a red wig and robbing a bank?" I knew those Lothlorien Elves were up to no good!

Celeborn bashing is pointless. What can you even bash him over? Now, Denethor-whacking is fun... but so is Boromir bashing.
< bash mode on> How could those unfeeling lunkheads treat Faramir like that? Stupid power-hungry half-blooded-Numenorean-degenerates! Try to take the Ring, will you? At least Boromir died well, can't say that for Denethor. Especially with trying to take Faramir with him...< /end bash>

What can you even bash him over? I bet Celeborn doesn't wear the pants in his own forest.

Ah! - Right on schedule come the Boromir apologists to the rescue again! [sigh]
To: Overtaxed
I'm not sure he wears pants at all... wasn't he in a robe-thing? Elves are big on flowing robes, but that's ok, it makes them look regal. Not at all like men in skirts.

[sigh] To "wear the pants" in one's own home (forest) means to be the master or head of the household (or foresthold...whatever)

Ah! - Right on schedule come the Boromir apologists to the rescue again! [sigh]Whoops! Weren't you going to Seattle? Note: Only defend Boromir AFTER HairOfTheDog says she is headed out the door.
BTW, drive safe. ;^)

Robes seem a little impractical for tree-dwellers though.
To: HairOfTheDog
I was going to say something about peeking up Celeborn's robes but I don't think I will. :)

Yes, I am late in leaving... Having a hard time getting moving. See you all later!
