...about those hobbit feet...
Apparently, they also start to smell really, really bad after a while, so that was another reason to shred them, lol...

Popping in again, glad your reading has gone well. We finished The Two Towers on Saturday night. Pretty tough stuff, for my wife and oldest son (the other two were sound asleep.) We're rooting for Gollum, and then he tips over to the dark side. And I have to admit I got pretty choked up reading Sam's goodbye to the seemingly-dead Frodo. What a valiant, loving hobbit!

Ah, The Choices of Master Samwise - probably my favorite chapter in the whole work. Such wonderful characterization of Sam, who thinks he is the only one of the fellowship to survive, and it is up to him to complete the task at hand. I can identify so well with his uncertainty over what to do when a tremendously difficult decision is suddenly placed upon you! Sorry, I'm getting verklempt here...
To: ecurbh
'Frodo, Mr. Frodo!' he called. "Don't leave me here alone! It's your Sam calling. Don't go where I can't follow! Wake up Mr. Frodo!'
That is absolutely going to knock me out on film... They may have to carry me out.

Then at last he began to weep; and going to Frodo he composed his body, and folded his cold hands upon his breast, and wrapped his cloak about him; and he laid his own sword at one side, and the staff that Faramir had given at the other. "If I'm to go on," he said, "then I must take your sword, by your leave, Mr. Frodo, but I'll put this one to lie by you, as it lay by the old king in the barrow; and you've got your beautiful mithril coat from old Mr. Bilbo. And your star-glass, Mr. Frodo, you did lend it to me and I'll need it, for I'll be always in the dark now. It's too good for me, and the Lady gave it to you, but maybe she'd understand. Do you understand, Mr. Frodo? I've got to go on."
My oh my. I have to go get a kleenex now.

LOL...........I wondered what was going on there, when I saw that thread building and building every day it seemed!
I liked Lord of the Rings, and I liked the animated movies made before the latest LOTR, however, I wouldn't say I have a "Hobbit Habbit" as many of you on this thread seem to (after reading some of the posts.hehe).....BUT I have nothing against it or this newfound thread for Hobbit fans. I wouldn't mind seeing a Star Trek thread start up.......hell maybe I'll do it myself. hehe
Anyway, just wanted to drop in and say that and have fun!

Welcome. Feel free to stop by for a pint anytime!

Welcome! Many of us HATE the animated movies that came before Peter Jackson's FoTR... But we welcome all friendly folk here, even those who defend defenseless ideas, eh Overtaxed?... hehehehe
You may find many closet Trekkies if you were to do a thread... who knows?... some of them are even more fanatical than us hobbitses.

How I will ever get through that last movie is beyond me... I will be an absolute puddle of tears before we even get into the second hour.

Okay, everyone, it's WAY too quiet here today....
Should I bring up Boromir again? Or perhaps it's time to take a couple of pot-shots at those snooty Lorien elves again.
BTW, I've noticed people mentioning on other message boards that they see Haldir in one of the scenes from the preview. Has anyone spotted him?
I have gotten ahold of an avi file of the preview that purports to clean up the flickering improve the quality of the other one that's floating around the net. I'll let you guys know if it's worth having.
I sure hope they post it on the OS when the movie is gone, it would be so nice to have a high-res, high quality Quicktime version.

I've actually been busy working alll day. :) Talk to you later...time to Freep the legislators.

OT, I'm going to kill you for reminding me of that. Thanks. Now that'll be in my head all through math class tonight. I should do something really cruel in return, like introduce you to something else that will addict you and take away your free time.

Speaking of the Bakshi version, check out this
critique.

Aren't your boys really too little for Watership Down?Oh yes, way too young. I like it though and found it in a box yesterday. Was thinking of re-reading it...but I just can't leave Frodo all alone dealing with that Ring!
To: ecurbh
I must say that the only time I saw that old animated film, I was quite intoxicated and after briefly realizing that the movie was playing and was trash, I proceeded to become even more intoxicated and I don't recall anything about the movie, nor the rest of the evening for that matter. And that's how I like it.
Disclaimer: This was many many years ago. I don't drink anything stronger than expresso now.
To: 2Jedismom
lol, it's one of those movies that should come with an alcohol level warning--a MINIMUM blood-alcohol level. ;)
...I am SO GRATEFUL that I never saw that awful thing!!!!

Guess what I saw today? I went to a bookstore and just so happened, the .50 Theater was next door. Guess what was up? The LOTR poster! It's not playing now, but I wonder if it's coming??? I gotta call!
To: 2Jedismom
You're referring to the Bakshi? In lieu of alcohol, you can watch it while sleep-deprived with people who like mocking anything and everything. It's almost kinda cool that way. In a really stupid, what does this have to do with Tolkien, kinda way.
what kinda Nazgul can't even steer a horse?

Ooooh, cool! I keep checking our cheap theater every time I drive by to see if LOTR is going to show up there. Right now, it's playing Harry Potter and Blackhawk Down, but maybe in a few weeks.....
