There are flame wars in a whistle group?
Intriguing! Tell me more!
Hullo, Good Morning!
To: HairOfTheDog
Hey Sis! Good morning, slug-a-bed!
Yeah, you know the type. This guy thinks he's really something with all his Copeland whistles (http://www.copelandwoodwinds.com/pricelist.asp). He's arrogant as all get-out and feels the need to redirect everyone.
Makes me appreciate all the more this little hole where most everyone is courteous to each other.

That's a lot of pennies for those whistles!
To: HairOfTheDog
Yeah...compare that $260 brass soprano D to my $7.50 looks-sorta-like-brass soprano D (which includes shipping!) The guy apparently has several of these Copelands. They arethe cream of the crop as far as whistles are concerned, from what I understand. I can only stare at the pictures.
To: 2Jedismom
Yes, but can he play them? Does he even own one?

Good morning, everyone.
Enjoying a quiet rainy morning here in Texas... nothing quite like sitting in the dark and listening to the rain. Only thing better would be if we had a covered porch so I could feel the rain on the breeze as well as listen to it...
Hope everyone has a good day!

Send that rain this way when you're through with it!
Good Morning!
To: Overtaxed
Good afternoon! I'm home for, oh, three hours, then back to church. What happened to the day?

Time flies when you're having fun! Can't decide what to make for lunch....something that goes well with pints!

I just ordered a collection of Tolkien's stories. It's got Smith of Wootton Major, Farmer Giles of Ham, Tree and Leaf (includes "Leaf by Niggle"), The Adventures of Tom Bombadil: 16 poems from the Red Booksome supposedly written by Sam Gamgee and Bilbo Baggins, and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight
To: Overtaxed
Ohhh, neat. Tell me how
Sir Gawain is, I've only ever read abridged and prose versions.
Hah! Taco time!

Actually, I bought the book for the other stories. I read "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight" back in....the Dark Ages... and still have the book (the book includes Pearl and Sir Orfeo.) All three are written in verse.

Send that rain this way when you're through with it!It's a low pressure system sitting in the Gulf of Mexico throwing waves of moisture up from the coast. Unlikely to have any effect further east, unfortunately. As usually happens here in central Texas, now that it's rained for more than a day, we're getting flash flood warnings.
On high ground here, though.

and Sir Gawain and the Green KnightThe kids are going to be reading that when we get to Medieval Studies. I just found out yesterday that Tolkien had written a version. We'll definitely be using that one.
We got a DVD from Netflix last week that was a National Geographic look at Lord of the Rings and the areas of the world that inspired Tolkien in its writing. It was the first time our daughter had heard the connection between the "Kalevala" from Finland and LOTR. I thought we had mentioned that to her last year sometime, but I guess not. I'll have to add the "Kalevala" to her Medieval studies as well! Check your DVD rental places to see if you can find it. It was very interesting. The Finland part was interesting because that was where Tolkien got the inspiration for the language of the Elves.

Quiet hobbitses today...

I think I saw that National Geographic special when it came out around the time FOTR was released.
I dug out my old book and according to the preface JRRT translated Sir Gawain from a manuscript dated around 1400. I'll have to go back and read it again. I'm not really into reading verse so I'm legend deprived. :)

Yes... Been quiet in here... I have been over on a thread about Koreans eating dogs... The good things have all been said already and the weird stuff is all that is left. I have tired of it.
To: Corin Stormhands
Very!
It is almost 7:00 pm, the temperature is 92F feels like 96, there is not breath one of air stirring and I have to go out and pick green beans. I will be back later thoroughly soaked, headband and all glowing with satisfaction at the accomplishment. Hobbits love to eat. ;^)

Quiet hobbitses today...Yup... just finished dinner and beginning to wind down here. Managed to get some grocery shopping done today, running between the raindrops. Taking bets on how many stories about people being washed away trying to cross flooded low-water crossings will be on the local news tonight...
