Thune Is Out of Excuses and Must Kill the Filibuster to Pass the SAVE America Act While He Still Can
The JD Rucker Show ^ | November 5, 2026 | JD Rucker

"The ballots are counted. The maps are drawn. Democrats will control the House and the Senate when the new Congress gavels in. That is the premise the country just handed Republicans, and the Senate still has a few weeks of majority power left. John Thune and the usual clutch of RINOs are treating that window like an inconvenience instead of the last clean shot they will get for years."

Glad to see there’s at least *1* person who gets it. There’s no money is the PASSING, all the money’s in the PROPOSING. You can only pass a bill once, but you can PROPOSE it every year or two.

I don’t think Trump can veto changes to the Senate Rules.

I think the veto was in response to the question of what's to prevent the next Congress from repealing... the SAVE Act if it were to be passed in the lame-duck session.

We’re going to want the filibuster with a solid dem advantage in the House and Senate, and with a very likely dem president in 2029.

Most of us are operating on the assumption that the dems will abolish the filibuster the next time they get the chance. The filibuster survived last time because three democrats voted to preserve it. Only Fetterman is still in the Senate. But that doesn’t mean that a few other democrats might have stepped up if their votes were needed.

There is always the question of what is being said publicly vs. what is said privately. I would not be surprised if some “come to Jesus” conversations are happening right now.

Given the prospects of complete democrat control and a runamuck DSA agenda waiting — which might scare some sober democrats as well as all the Republicans — there must be some quiet conversations going on about keeping the filibuster, and being serious about it.

Thune is cornered. The dems know he is cornered. Thune could play the nuclear option (provided the RINOs don’t sell him out) and threaten X, Y and Z between now and January 3 unless enough of the democrats take a blood oath to keep the filibuster.

Then the question is whether ANY of the democrats can be trusted.

I know, I know ... most freepers will say that no democrat can be trusted. But the senior Senators have worked together for many years. There are friendships across the aisle. Historically neither party, in the clinch, has killed the filibuster because each is afraid of what the other might do if unchecked. That might still come into play.

There are many instances when congressmen and senators get a quiet release from the leadership so that they don’t have to cast a politically dangerous vote. They get cleared to vote with the mob because there are enough votes to do whatever without them. But oftentimes, these people would stand up and cast the tough vote if absolutely needed.

(And then there are the egomaniacs and libertarians who wouldn’t do take one for the team for any reason. Lookin’ at you, Rand Paul; it makes him feel important to take down the side and throw the victory to the big enemy.)

At least some of the dems are probably looking for a way to put the brakes on the DSA crazies. This would be a good place to start.

That’s just a speculation, but I would be surprised if these conversations are NOT happening.

What SHOULD happen regardless of who is in charge is to return to the standing filibuster. Filibusters used to be rare and short because it was tedious and exhausting to stand for the duration and hold the floor. Howard Baker shifted to the kinder, gentler, gentleman’s agreement filibuster when he became Majority Leader. That was a huge mistake. Bobby Byrd spotted the opening in about 15 seconds, the Senate collapsed into paralysis, and the budget process was destroyed. That was Howard Baker’s greatest mistake as Majority Leader.

Restore the standing filibuster. Do that now. Threaten the democrats with Armageddon in the next two months if they don’t agree to provide enough votes to hold the line there — and let the democrats know that there is a mafia contract out on anyone who breaks that pledge.

I wouldn’t put that last bit in writing.

That’s not what he was asking. Of course the Dems won’t want to change it back.

The Dhimmicrats are going to nuke it to pass their vile agenda. Thune needs to do it to pass the SAVE and any anything else they can get to the floor. Trump supports nuking it.

Thune will say if he kills the filibuster he leaves it killed for the rats to use come January. He’ll likely portray that he holds out hope the rats will keep it out of tradition.

The Democrats don’t need to kill the filibuster anyway. They have enough votes to ignore it, or just force the Republicans to filibuster the old fashioned way, by holding the floor and talking continually. Something the useless Republican majority never forced them to do, but never mind that.

What is to prevent the next Congress from repealing it? Trump’s veto.

Trump has no say. Getting rid of the filibuster is a procedural vote, not a vote on a bill. It's a Senate rule, not a law.

What if the Democrats get the House and Senate and the presidency in 2028?

In my opinion, the midterm election results were due mostly to fraud — much of it because of Thune blocking the SAVE American Act.

Thune benefits from the fraud.

In 2027, when they’d *STILL* need 67 votes to override a veto?

Don’t make me laugh.

Even THEY aren’t that stupid.

Stop being silly. I *would* bet they kill it - in 2 years. But they won’t do it now.

Why not kill the ‘buster, ram the SAV, and then reinstate the ‘buster?

Thune is Turtle, slightly light.
