When Altman said that you dont need a computer, he's giving you the talking point of the global order. They may not ban computers outright, but it probably wont be long before you cant buy one or get parts to upgrade yours.
All that will be available is a 2026 version of the dummy work station, if anything at all.

Windows 11 (legal/legit) upgraded ram and HDD along with graphics....all/ the whole set up is under 200 dollars....how much simpler can I state this to all freepers? I am on the best computer I have ever had (and I’ve had many thinking NEWER was better! NOT THE CASE....united PC tech does all the upgrading in house and they do this on scale when big companies upgrade they buy out all their stock...you have to really hate your money to buy a new system for thousands when 200 dollars gets you a great system with more connections for old and newer attachments. At least check them out! If you don’t like it RETURN it...this is legit people!
I have three working PCs now. And an Apple thingy or two. An Android sitting around here somewhere. Yeah I’m a tech nerd.

Two Dell 790s, two Dell 9010s, one Raspberry Pi4, and a Dell unknown desktop, all running 24/7.
One 790 for wife’s computer.
one 790 in the man cave for experimentation and recording audio.
one 9010 on my desk as the primary for me.
One 9010 in the mancave for exercise music (that’s Important...).
One Raspberry Pi4 runs movies while I’m on the mancave bicycle.
The Dell unknown sits in the entertainment center, with movies and music.
The collection has been built over the years, first one was in 2017. It still works.
All run 24/7. All run FreeBSD or Linux; I throw windows away.
Also have another Pi4 and a T40. They’re off right now, don’t get run much.
Yeah I’m a Nerd.

The only chip Altman and his ilk wants you to have is in your head or hand. Think of it as the “666” chip.
One option os to hook up old cellphone and make one super computer.

Well put
That pretty accurately describes the situation IMHO

NOTES:
- All Chromebooks cannot be upgraded to Linux. You can find out at: http://mrchromebox.tech
- Some Chromebooks require that the case be opened and slight adjustments made (such as temporarily disconnecting the battery during the install) as part of the install.
If you’re just going to put Windows on it you’re wasting your time and effort.
The whole spyware scheme is embedded in that specific operating system - Windows.

“If you have your own computer, you can remain independent.”
I think most people who responded here believe that computer components will always be available. I think a shift in thinking is required here. In 1934, FDR signed the National Firearms Act restricting access to previously easy-to-purchase weapons. Look at the hoops one must jump through just to buy a handgun. This is a perfect example of how our government can make ownership of a particular category of technology increasingly difficult without banning all private ownership outright.
This government never met a restriction it didn’t like. What I see coming is users requiring licenses, registration, government approval, or other restrictions on what kind of computing equipment an individual can own and operate. We already have to pay for internet access so it’s like the frog being boiled slowly.
Dark days coming ahead, my geeks.
I’ll never obey any GLOBALISTS... They can KMA...
Out of Stock! 🤣
Thirty years ago I attended the launch of Oracle's "Network Computer" at Radio City Hall in NYC, with Larry on stage with 3 giant HP servers and NC Terminals dispersed around the facility for us to sample.
After all the hype, we tried them, and despite only 2,500 or so people taking turns on perhaps 150 screens, the terminals were ridiculously slow and almost totally unusable. Network Computer soon died a swift death.
Now Larry & Co. are trying again to rid us of our own PCs.
I’m not in a position to pull the GPU trigger and buy expensive hardware. I don’t need it and am working to downsize, actually.
.
Right now, I’ve got a Dell 5300 2 in 1 that I got when a local city school district updgraded their fleet - Cost was $75, and then I upgraded its RAM to 32 GB - runs Ultramarine Linux like a charm!
