Your window to prepare, even with the basics, is closing.

Your window to prepare, even with the basics, is closing.

For those tracking the indicators that an event is increasingly likely, you know that it is now undeniable that something is brewing. It has now reached the point to where national governments are now overtly telling civilians to make preparations, however basic.

As part of my career in the US intelligence community, one of things I supported was Counterintelligence threats to Continuity of Government (COG) and Continuity of Operations (COOP). Something i can say for absolute certain is that once governments signal that their citizens need to prepare, those preparations have already been conducted for national leadership.

Governments plan for two course of action; bug in and bug out. Bug in involves hunkering down where they are. They lock down the facility. No one in and no one out. Bug out involves the relocation to a secure location that is away from potential threats, which includes hungry people. They lock down. No one in. No one out.

It would be wise for you to assess your current situation and decide the appropriate course of action for yourself and family.

What has been happening over the past several years is that the affluent have been making their own preparations for crisis, including efforts to secure survivable locations away from major population centers, storing food, water, and the means to defend those locations.

The most recent loud signals are likely our last real warning. Governments from Eastern Europe to the UK are now telling people to have the basics on hand to weather a bad situation. Notably, this is on the back drop, for those that remember, when "prepping" was aligned with anti-government extremism under the Obama administration. What you will notice over the next several weeks is the expanding time period that governments call for people to prepare. In Europe, its currently between 3 days and a week. However, the US just sent the loudest signal concerning how significant the situation is; military bases must be self-sufficient for 90 days. The gravity of this can't be understated.

The calls for preparedness will escalate in their time frames. 3 days will turn into a week. A week will turn in to a few weeks. A few weeks into a couple months.

What Americans should know is that you will be on your own. FEMA does not have the resources to help people in a time of need during an event at national scale. You local authorities don't either.

For those in major cities, you should know that almost two decades ago now the Asymmetric Warfare Group, in collaboration with the US military, conducted a study on the process that major population centers descend into chaos, anchored on the current "just in time" supply chain. In 3 days, a major city is out of food in the major stores. Looting starts, first whats left on shelves, then people start taking from one another. Suburbia is then the next harvest location. People organize and target food distribution warehouses. Then people head out into the country where people are prepared and things get ugly.

My recommendation for people is to not focus on the "what", the catalyst for crisis. Focus on being prepared and prepare quietly. Those who fail to prepare will target those who they know are. This includes your own family members. You, at some point, will hear, "well if something happens, I'll just come to your house", stated as a joke. But this is not a joke. You have now become someone's backup plan. Don't allow this.

Right now, you need to shift your mental paradigm. Randomize when you go to the store. Avoid dark hours. Slow down how many times Amazon deliveries show up at your house. And start to think about how to feign poverty. Affluence/comfort has a signature that is easy to spot and smell.

You can't prepare forever. Even governments don't do that. What you need to do is prepare to weather the storm. As the saying in the military goes, "KISS"; Keep It Simple, Stupid. Water, rice, protein, canned foods. Then think basic medicines for colds, flu, and infections. Then think protection and communications. You don't need thousands of dollars, you just need to be smart.

I've recommended this before, but I will say it again. Go watch two movies; "The Day After" and "Threads". This is not to scare you. This is so you can notice the indicators leading up to crisis. They are quiet at first. Governments say everything is fine. Then they say have basic preparations. Then they say have more because help wont be coming immediately. Most people will brush it off and just say it will pass. We are now at the part of both movies where governments are telling people to prepare and some degree of panic is setting in. This will get worse.

You must identify your phase line for action. Assuming, in any way, that crisis will hit and the government will show up to rescue you is a mistake. Turn that fear you are feeling into focused action.

For those that are prepared, keep preparing and be quiet. For those that are unprepared, start now and be quiet.

For everyone, hang in there. Its going to get rough. 🥃

“Prepping is a lifestyle.”

Correct answer.

Once it becomes a habit you do not even realize you are doing it—you just routinely do it.

Then the “fear” part is gone—and “warnings” like this article become boring.

“Inbound alien invasion.”

That is called “Project Bluebeam”—aka the fake alien invasion.

Please don’t fall for that stuff—if it happens.

Governments want you terrorized and obedient.

Interesting, describe your living situation, (suburbs, city condo, big/little/no yard, climate/region) and give an indication of funds you are willing to invest (just a vague feeling for your commitment to preparing, not details of income or finances) and people can offer suggestions, personally I’m a minimalist so I don’t pay much attention to the fancy stuff like solar and generators, owning a retreat, buying all the expensive solutions etc., so my suggestions run more to making it part of your lifestyle and normal life, stuff that a suburban household can do to get by for a year without going full rural survivalist.

“”””Example is wally world had taco seasoned ground turkey for 75 cents a pound, bought a bunch and canned it. Good for years.””””

Something rarely mentioned when people worry about the freezer food being wasted in a blackout, is that a household ready for canning with the jars, lids and a cooking source, can set to canning that freezer meat once the blackout reaches the point where they know it should be done or lost.

You can even boil and then can the eggs in the fridge if you have the vinegar, pickled eggs would sure be a treat and I have eaten them 2 years after canning them.

I was thinking if excrement hits the fan, even the back roads might be impassable.

“”””No, not the prepping. I wanted hints from the doom-and-gloomers about what they think is coming. The Russians, an asteroid, or zombie apocalypse.””””

I think what is coming doesn’t matter much unless you are below sea level in New Orleans, no matter what it is, in just about any situation it will be about food and electricity, water, winter cold and summer heat, unusual health needs, and the capability for basic self defense until help arrives or normality returns.

Maybe the better question is how long people think the possible scenarios could last, a month, 3 months, a year, 10 years?

That’s a good question.

If it’s a natural disaster, even a regional one, I should think you only need to last several weeks on food, water, and electricity. Even with bad hurricanes then get power ball for most customers within a few weeks.

Now a national (civil) or global problem?
As we found out in 2020, even something like a glorified flu pandemic can cause widespread “supply chain” problems, or shortages that could last months or years.

I feel like the opposite might be the case. The large thoroughfares could be bigger targets for destruction or road-blocks that cause big backups.

Logistically, it would be harder for a group, government, or invasion to pull off closing all the smaller routes and back-roads because there are so many of them. For every road that is closed, there are other places you can turn, or back-track and find dozens of other options. It’s far more likely that back roads will be closed by locals who want to protect themselves from outsiders/invaders, and will likely let you through if you are considered a friendly.

Two weeks should be the absolute minimum for non-prepper people, 90 days is superb and covers a heck of a lot of scenarios, 90 days is true prepper stuff.

I think everyone should prep for as long as is practical for their lifestyle, space and income, although as someone with almost no money I’m prepared for about 18 months, which is a nice place to be, and easy if someone is frugal and puts some thinking and creativity into it.

For the 100 million dollar rich freepers here, I think 10 years is the ideal place to be, that would cover the situations that interfere with weather and crops and civilization, and how nice is the situation for freepers who live on farms or such plus are preppers at the same time, and have big stocks of prepper supplies like stored wheat and rice, and plenty of canning materials and such to coordinate with and complement their farm/off grid advantages.

I was actually using my Y2K stash of TP during Covid! And giving some to neighbors as well.

I bought a literal mountain of those HUGE multi-paks of Scott 1000 toilet paper a few years back... after the Covid buttwipe shortages..

Had some visiting relations with young boys, they went into the room where the TP was all stored and they built a fort out of those huge paks... and when I saw it I thought, "perfect warm place to sleep if the heat goes out.."

The fort still stands, ready for occupancy :-)

I enjoy playing with my local AI systems but I do agree there is some danger... the problem, as always, is mostly people of low character.

There are those who seek total control of AI by way of demonizing it to shut down competitors and gifted amateurs running local systems.

Their most likely plan to demonize AI is a false flag AI cyber incident...

In the very near future local AI you can use in privacy will be as important to you as the rights guaranteed by the 2nd amendment....

Local AI will be combined with advanced 3D printers and desktop assemblers and will become VERY popular... make most things you need at home from raw materials... there will be many who are against the unwashed being able to DIY from scratch...

I have two 1500 gallon potable water tanks here on the farm that are filled up with well water from a deep well... we got them originally as a water source for cattle if the power for the pumps went out... they are up on a hill and have gravity feed to the house and barn.... mighty glad to have them now!

Have 48vdc well pumps I can drop down one of the wells if need be... and plenty of solar to run them...

They’ll both be impassable.

Trust me …. We’ve evacuated for several hurricanes.

It gets ugly, fast. On ALL roads.

You think you know all of the back roads, to access another route/way around.

Guess what? Plenty of others know those same back woods roads, too.

And, half are out of gas.

That is a usable idea, some here live in super cold places like Wisconsin and they could invest in toilet paper storage that would also line a room or a large closet that would be their warm sanctuary during a long blackout, great insulation in a closed space that would help retain body heat and candle and cooking heat.

The big boxes of the bulk purchases could be opened and the 6 and 12 packages would make one roll thick walls of extra insulation in a closet, that and candles would help in a closet even in places that get 20 and 30 below zero.
