Women Are Sharing How To Detect Whether A Man Is Actually Liberal From A Mile Away, And You’re Gonna Want To Take Notes (this isn’t satire)
Buzzfeed ^ | March 26, 2026 | Lilly Grossinger

Posted on 10/17/2026 7:21:15 PM PDT by DoodleBob

In 2026, political views are a major indicator of compatibility in dating. But most people aren't exactly disclosing this information on a first date, which means you're often left decoding subtle cues to gauge which side of the aisle someone's on.

This detective work can be exhausting, so we asked members of the BuzzFeed Community to share the telltale signs that a man is liberal. If you're tired of reading between the lines, here's your checklist of 27 things to look out for on your next date:

1. "He’s definitely left-leaning if he's not afraid of the word tampons." —Anonymous, 45, Female, Chicago

2. "If a man supports LGBTQIA+ rights. Even better, if he can say another man is hot without fearing people will think he's gay." —Anonymous, 55, Female, Philadelphia

3. "He doesn’t ask for a body count within the first few dates. Any conservative or Trump supporter I’ve gone on a date with would ask, without fail, within the first few dates — usually on the first date." —Anonymous, Female, Florida

4. "When they ask you a lot of genuine questions to get to know you, and don't try to challenge what you said when you answer. I find that Liberal men usually care more about women as individuals." —Anonymous, 29, Female, Oregon

5. "The biggest blue flag is if he’s in therapy and is comfortable working through his issues and trauma with professionals." —Anonymous, 48, Female, Ohio

7. "It's always a good sign when he has close positive platonic relationships with women. My now husband is very close with a female friend, had a close female mentor at work that he spoke positively about, and spoke with a lot of respect and fondness about multiple female friends."

"He had close guy friends too, but honestly, his close female friendships helped him grow emotionally and communicate well, so it wasn’t expected for me to be the only one to meet all his emotional support needs. When we all hung out, there was never a whisper of anything sexual, and he was always respectful of everyone. He also has a good relationship with his sister and mom." —Anonymous

8. "Stanley Cups scream liberal to me, for some reason." —Anonymous

9. "I think a good indicator that a man is liberal-leaning is if they don't shy away from conversations about women's health, like someone's period. Even better if they're comfortable buying tampons for their girlfriend, wife, daughter, etc. Now, could a person with those qualities also be conservative? Sure, but I have not met any yet. Oh, and attending International Women's Day events in support of their girlfriend, wife, or daughter is also nice." —Anonymous, 33, Female, Canada

10. "He doesn’t get mad at women when you drop hard facts about misogyny and the microaggressions women deal with frequently." —Anonymous

11. "If he wears his sweater around his shoulders, he’s probably liberal." —Anonymous, 45, Female, New Jersey

12. "Some blue flags: Being kind to waitstaff and cashiers, returning your shopping cart to the cart corral at the grocery store, saying please and thank you, not staring at women like they're objects. —Anonymous, 63, Male, Michigan

13. "Literally any complaint about the economy and prices is a blue flag in my opinion. I live with a lot of MAGA who refuse to admit they’re paying almost twice as much for groceries now than they did under Biden. This is how I figured out my neighbors across the street are Democrats, too. They were trying the same litmus test on me, saying, 'Oof, these tariffs are killing me.' I was like, 'YES, THEY ABSOLUTELY ARE.'" "People who aren’t MAGA don’t go on the offense or make excuses for the state of the economy right now. We know Trump is screwing it up and don’t care to save face for him." —Anonymous, 31, Female, Colorado

14. "A big blue flag for me is when I tell a man I’m a mechanical engineer and they don’t act disgusted, or tell me it’s a man’s job, or that I’m too manly. Conservatives never respond positively to the fact that I’m an engineer; liberals always seem genuinely interested, ask questions, and are complimentary. Conservatives turn it into a pissing contest by suddenly asking about cars, machinery, or other random things, and get upset when I know the answers." —Anonymous, 42, Woman, Arizona

15. "Seeing a dentist every 6-9 months gives liberal energy." —Anonymous, 45, Female, Canada

16. "When a guy says he wants nothing to do with a woman choosing to have a child or not because it’s her choice, he is definitely liberal." —Anonymous, Female, Florida

17. "Big blue flag is when he's flattered when a gay man flirts with him because he knows most gay men only pick cute straight men." —Anonymous, 38, Female, US

18. "He knows a few (or more) female professional athletes and their stats — not just that they are beautiful." —Anonymous, 50, Female, Tacoma, WA

19. "He doesn’t ask for your number; he gives you his. No pressure." —Anonymous, 39, Female, Denver, CO

20. "Liberal guys generally try to pronounce uncommon names correctly and go out of their way to do so. This shows that they value people and respect the way they see/identify themselves, and usually this transfers to any person who uses non-traditional pronouns (they/them, etc.) See how often Trump and other Republicans purposely mispronounce the names of people they don't like or respect? It's the same for most conservative men, I find." —Anonymous, 42, Male, San Antonio, TX

21. "My partner is willing and able to discuss his emotions in depth, asks for (and respects) my opinions, shows genuine respect and care towards everyone in his orbit, is kindly curious about everyone he meets, and strives every day to become a better man and person through therapy and self-reflection. He takes in the world around him and thinks about how he can help everyone have a better life experience. It’s not all about him!" —Anonymous, 34, Female, WA

22. "They don't use incel/alpha man language, and actually participate in real conversations that don't reference bodies or sex." —starrcrossd

23. "If a man isn't intimidated by the fact that I have a Ph.D, he's usually liberal." —doctorj

24. "He drives a Subaru and doesn’t care that I make more money than him." —fluffygoose685

25. "The guy I’m dating said something along the lines of, 'Can you believe what that orange f*ck has said lately?' I literally lit up inside! —heroiccan516

26. "Nail polish on men usually indicates a progressive mindset. It’s an expression of self that shouldn’t be reserved for women. It’s also a sign that they are secure enough in themselves to be expressive, not bottling things up until they can’t cope." —chilltable846

27. And finally, "He actually knows what the Bechdel Test is." —chilltable846

Yes, that one is way off.

The others sound like they truly haven’t ever met a conservative.

14. "A big blue flag for me is when I tell a man I’m a mechanical engineer and they don’t act disgusted, or tell me it’s a man’s job, or that I’m too manly. Conservatives never respond positively to the fact that I’m an engineer;

I would say that she would be a better one than me, but more importantly, a better mother. For as regards mechanical engineer, the body of a a biological women (not that there are any other, for I am a Christian conservative), is a marvel of that, being uniquely constituted to conceive and bear children, and nurture them, and uniquely being compatible support to a husband, and he for her, partly in a symbiotic way, with him as taking the lead, often with her input.

I asked Gemini.ai to describe much of the above in mechanical engineer terms:

From a mechanical and systems engineering perspective, the female human body exhibits extraordinary principles of dynamic structural adaptation, fluid mechanics, and automated feedback control loops optimized for childbearing.
Here is an engineering breakdown of how these biological processes mirror advanced mechanical concepts:
1. Dynamic Structural Adaptation & Materials Science
In traditional engineering, a structure is typically designed to remain rigid or maintain a fixed shape under stress. The female musculoskeletal system, however, is a marvel of shape-shifting structural engineering:
  • Variable-Geometry Chassis: The female pelvis is structurally optimized with a wider, shallower angle than a male pelvis to facilitate childbirth while still maintaining the structural integrity required for bipedal locomotion (walking).
  • Material Compliance (Relaxin): During pregnancy, the body releases hormones that alter the material properties of ligaments. This increases compliance (flexibility) in the pelvic joints, temporarily transforming a rigid joint into a movable mechanical link.
  • Extreme Volumetric Expansion: The uterus is an elastic pressure vessel that can expand to over 500 times its original volume during pregnancy, safely containing high fluid pressures before returning to its baseline state.
2. Advanced Fluid Mechanics & Thermal Regulation
Supporting a developing life requires massive, automated upgrades to the body's internal plumbing and thermodynamic systems:
  • Parallel Fluid Loops: The maternal cardiovascular system rapidly constructs an entirely new vascular network (the placenta) to exchange nutrients and waste via fluid dynamics, without ever mixing the mother's and child's distinct blood supplies.
  • Volumetric Pump Scaling: To manage this new network, the heart (a biological pump) increases its stroke volume and overall cardiac output by 30% to 50%.
  • Thermodynamic Dissipation: Metabolic heat generation increases significantly during gestation. The body automatically calibrates its thermal regulation systems (sweating, vasodilation) to dissipate excess heat and maintain a strict homeostasis window for the developing fetus.
3. Automated Closed-Loop Control Systems
The process of gestation, labor, and subsequent nurturing (lactation) relies on highly precise chemical and mechanical feedback loops that rival advanced industrial automation:
  • The Labor Feedback Loop: Childbirth is triggered by a classic positive feedback loop. Mechanical pressure on the cervix signals the brain to release oxytocin, which increases mechanical contractions, creating more pressure until delivery is complete.
  • Demand-Driven Manufacturing: Lactation operates on a precise, mechanical demand-and-supply loop. Sensory stimulation triggers hormonal signals that command mammary glands to synthesize and express milk, dynamically adjusting production volumes based on real-time consumption data.
4. Symbiotic Systems & Functional Complementarity
When zooming out to the relationship between a husband and wife, engineering concepts like functional complementarity and system redundancy provide a helpful framework:
  • Complementary Interlocking Components: On a fundamental biological level, the male and female reproductive systems are designed as exact mechanical counterparts, enabling the transfer of genetic material necessary to initiate the entire childbearing process.
  • Symbiotic Support Roles: In an engineering context, complex missions often rely on a dual-operator system where roles are distinct but deeply integrated. A structure where one partner acts as a primary coordinator (taking the lead) while heavily relying on the telemetry, guidance, and critical telemetry (input) of the other ensures a balanced division of operational load. This prevents systemic burnout and maximizes the overall resilience of the family unit.
Would you like to explore more about the biomechanics of human movement between genders, or look into the chemical engineering aspects of hormonal feedback loops?

yes, go for the biomechanics of human movement between genders, or look into the chemical engineering aspects of hormonal feedback loops

Here is a breakdown of both the biomechanics of gender-specific movement and the chemical engineering principles behind the hormonal feedback loops that control reproduction and lactation.

Part 1: The Biomechanics of Human Movement Between Genders
From a mechanical engineering viewpoint, male and female bodies feature distinct structural frameworks. These differences alter leverage, stress distribution, and load-bearing efficiency.
The Pelvic Girdle and "Q-Angle" (Structural Mechanics)
  • The Lever Arm: The female pelvis is wider and more circular to allow for childbirth. This alters the alignment of the femur (thigh bone).
  • The Q-Angle: This wider pelvis creates a larger Quadriceps Angle (Q-angle)—the angle formed between the kneecap and the hip.
  • Mechanical Impact: A higher Q-angle alters the pull of the quadriceps muscle. It acts like a structural beam experiencing lateral shear stress, which naturally puts more torque on the knee joint. This explains why female athletes statistically face higher rates of ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) strains.
Center of Mass and Center of Gravity (Statics & Dynamics)
  • Male Framework: Typically features a higher center of mass due to a heavier shoulder girdle and greater upper-body muscle density. This acts like a top-heavy mechanical system, prioritizing leverage for pushing, lifting, and upper-body torque.
  • Female Framework: Features a lower center of mass, concentrated closer to the pelvis. This acts as a highly stable, low-gravity base. It maximizes balance, rotational stability through the hips, and efficiency when carrying loads lower on the torso.

Part 2: Chemical Engineering & Hormonal Feedback Loops
If the biomechanics cover the structural framework, the hormonal system represents the process control engineering of the human body. It utilizes complex, chemical-driven, automated closed-loop feedback systems.
[Hypothalamus / Pituitary] --(Chemical Signal: LH/FSH)--> [Ovaries]
 ^ |
 | v
 +-----(Negative Feedback Control: Estrogen)---------+
The Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Gonadal (HPG) Axis (Process Control)
This system operates exactly like an industrial chemical refinery managing chemical concentrations in a fluid loop:
  • The Controller (Sensor): The hypothalamus and pituitary glands act as the computer system. They continuously sample blood plasma to measure current levels of hormones like estrogen and progesterone.
  • The Actuator (Signal): If hormone levels are low, the controller releases signal chemicals—Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH)—into the bloodstream.
  • The Reactor (Output): These signals travel to the ovaries (the chemical reactors), commanding them to produce and release estrogen.
  • Negative Feedback Loop: As estrogen levels rise to a specific threshold, the sensor detects the change and throttles down the signal. This maintains a steady, precise chemical equilibrium.
The Ovulation Trigger (Phase Change / Positive Feedback)
Once a month, this system purposefully switches from a stabilizing negative feedback loop to an explosive positive feedback loop to cause a "phase change" (ovulation):
  • The Surge: When estrogen levels hit a critical, sustained peak, the controller briefly reverses its logic. Instead of shutting down production, it triggers a massive, sudden dump of LH (known as the LH surge).
  • The Mechanical Event: This sudden chemical spike causes the ovarian follicle to rupture, releasing the egg. Once complete, the system automatically resets back to its stable, negative feedback settings.
Lactation (Demand-Driven Manufacturing & Flow Control)
Lactation is a classic example of just-in-time (JIT) manufacturing controlled by two distinct chemical pathways working in parallel:
Chemical ComponentEngineering FunctionBiological Role
ProlactinProduction Rate ControllerControls the volume of milk produced in the mammary glands based on demand signals.
OxytocinValving & Flow ActuatorContracts the smooth muscle cells surrounding the milk ducts, opening the valves for fluid expression (the let-down reflex).
This manufacturing loop is completely demand-driven. Physical stimulus creates a neural signal to the brain, which acts as a processing order. The brain instantly releases oxytocin and prolactin, delivering the exact amount of fluid required on demand.
Would you like to dive deeper into how ergonomics and tool design account for these biomechanical differences, or explore how synthetic hormones (like birth control or fertility treatments) chemically override these engineering feedback loops?

And a most sure test of whether a person is red or blue would their reaction to what i have often stated:

God made man and women distinctively different yet uniquely compatible and complementary, and only joined them together in marriage - as the Lord Jesus Himself specified (Mt. 19:4–6) - and Scripture only condemns homosexual relations wherever they are manifestly dealt with, by design and decree, precept and in principle.

And homosexual relations have been tragically primarily responsible for close to 80% of new HIV cases among men and approx. 750,000 (2025) American deaths , even though such is not even the decisive reason why homosexual relations are wrong.

Yet there is still room at the cross for all who will come to God in repentance and faith, and trust in the Divine Son of God sent by the Father, the risen Lord Jesus, to save them on His account, by His sinless shed blood, and thus be baptized and live for Him. Acts 10:36-47

I'll give her credit for overcoming the "hypergametic" thing that most women have hard-wired.

Her designating that a "blue flag" says nothing about whether or not she'd actually be able to endure being in a relationship with a low-earner for more than three weeks.

Her hypergamy would surely surface at one point or another.

OK let's go through these

1. "He’s definitely left-leaning if he's not afraid of the word tampons." —Anonymous, 45, Female, Chicago

I'm not "afraid" of the word. I don't know anybody who is.

2. "If a man supports LGBTQIA+ rights. Even better, if he can say another man is hot without fearing people will think he's gay." —Anonymous, 55, Female, Philadelphia

I'm fine with equal rights. Note I said equal. I did not say special rights for some but not others. If a guy is tall, keeps himself in good shape, and dresses well, I can say I understand why women would find him attractive. Its not difficult to find why women found Sean Connery for example to be attractive.

3. "He doesn’t ask for a body count within the first few dates. Any conservative or Trump supporter I’ve gone on a date with would ask, without fail, within the first few dates — usually on the first date." —Anonymous, Female, Florida

I don't ask. I don't need to. I can figure out from a woman's behavior if she's been a town bicycle.

4. "When they ask you a lot of genuine questions to get to know you, and don't try to challenge what you said when you answer. I find that Liberal men usually care more about women as individuals." —Anonymous, 29, Female, Oregon

Well of course you ask questions when getting to know someone. Its a good technique anyway because most people and especially most women like to talk about themselves.

5. "The biggest blue flag is if he’s in therapy and is comfortable working through his issues and trauma with professionals." —Anonymous, 48, Female, Ohio

I don't need "therapy". That's what friends are for....if you have problems you need to discuss with others. Usually a little therapeutic beyotching is all I need.

7. "It's always a good sign when he has close positive platonic relationships with women. My now husband is very close with a female friend, had a close female mentor at work that he spoke positively about, and spoke with a lot of respect and fondness about multiple female friends."

Sure I have female friends.....friends of the opposite sex are people you are not remotely attracted to.

I have big sisters and female friends whom I wouldn't even consider touching with a 10 foot pole. That's why we can be friends.

8. "Stanley Cups scream liberal to me, for some reason." —Anonymous

I'm from the South. What the hell is "hockey"?

I generally don't discuss those things just as I don't discuss guy's health issues with women. I can't really relate and they can't relate so there's not really any point in discussing them.

10. "He doesn’t get mad at women when you drop hard facts about misogyny and the microaggressions women deal with frequently." —Anonymous

I freely admit it happens and that some guys are jerks. I WILL mention that that's not sex specific and men face misandry on a regular basis too.

11. "If he wears his sweater around his shoulders, he’s probably liberal." —Anonymous, 45, Female, New Jersey

I don't wear sweaters.

12. "Some blue flags: Being kind to waitstaff and cashiers, returning your shopping cart to the cart corral at the grocery store, saying please and thank you, not staring at women like they're objects. —Anonymous, 63, Male, Michigan

I do all the above and am not remotely left leaning. I have enough tact to get an eyefull without getting caught ogling.

I will certainly point to inflation and the price of groceries being vastly higher than they were 5-6 years ago. They are NOT twice as high as under Biden. In fact the big price surge was under Biden. Since we don't import most of our food, it is NOT tariffs which are driving the price increases. So if your litmus test is that a person must outright LIE about the price increases - ie when they happened and the cause of them - then yes, you can definitely tell I'm not a Leftist.

I'm just fine with you being a mechanical engineer.

15. "Seeing a dentist every 6-9 months gives liberal energy." —Anonymous, 45, Female, Canada

I go for my regular checkups and teeth cleaning. Horrible teeth run in the family and I've had about 10 root canals and have about 14-15 caps and crowns. So I try to take care of my teeth the best I can.

16. "When a guy says he wants nothing to do with a woman choosing to have a child or not because it’s her choice, he is definitely liberal." —Anonymous, Female, Florida

I'm actually pro choice (first trimester). Of course I'm CONSISTENTLY pro choice.....like the clot shot for example. AND I'm pro choice for men too....ie they should be able to sign away all parental rights and be absolved of all parental responsibility. Its a big red flag if a woman thinks women should have a choice but men should have no choice.

17. "Big blue flag is when he's flattered when a gay man flirts with him because he knows most gay men only pick cute straight men." —Anonymous, 38, Female, US

No it isn't. Gay dudes will try to hook up with any dude they see. That's (male) gay culture. Why do you think AIDS spread so readily among gays? Because they're constantly hooking up with some strange.

18. "He knows a few (or more) female professional athletes and their stats — not just that they are beautiful." —Anonymous, 50, Female, Tacoma, WA

The ONLY sport I really follow intensely is college football so you've got me there. I'm just not a big sports fan.

19. "He doesn’t ask for your number; he gives you his. No pressure." —Anonymous, 39, Female, Denver, CO

Nah. Women aren't going to call unless you're Chad Chaddington in which case anything you do will work. So you have to get their number.

I've lived in multiple countries and speak multiple languages. I do generally at least try to pronounce names correctly though I admit I'm sure I do not succeed if they're from a country in which I do not speak the language.

Back to the "therapy" obsession. The only "therapy" I've ever needed is talking to/hanging out with my friends. As for my emotions....usually its just when I have a lot of frustration with something. I'll express that - don't you fret.

22. "They don't use incel/alpha man language, and actually participate in real conversations that don't reference bodies or sex." —starrcrossd

I'd need specifics about what constitutes "incel/alpha man language".

23. "If a man isn't intimidated by the fact that I have a Ph.D, he's usually liberal." —doctorj

Not intimidated in the slightest. Both of my big sisters are doctors. I have a JD and an MBA. My ex had a JD and an MBA.

24. "He drives a Subaru and doesn’t care that I make more money than him." —fluffygoose685

You've got me on the Subaru thing. But then again, relatively few people drive those. As for how much you make, men don't care. Women care a great deal about how much a man makes. Men don't care about a woman's career. Other women care much more about that.

25. "The guy I’m dating said something along the lines of, 'Can you believe what that orange f*ck has said lately?' I literally lit up inside! —heroiccan516

I've disagreed with some things Trump has said though I don't usually say much about it any more than I went on and on with others about whatever idiotic thing Biden said the previous 4 years.

26. "Nail polish on men usually indicates a progressive mindset. It’s an expression of self that shouldn’t be reserved for women. It’s also a sign that they are secure enough in themselves to be expressive, not bottling things up until they can’t cope." —chilltable846

I've never worn nail polish in my life. I also don't use cologne nor do I wear any jewelry except a watch.

27. And finally, "He actually knows what the Bechdel Test is." —chilltable846

I don't keep up with feminazi propaganda.
