Holly Burns and about a dozen other girls walked away from a cross-country race in Washington on Tuesday.
They refused to compete against a male athlete who had started the season racing on the boys’ team.
When the race began, half of the girls competing, and the male athlete, took off running.
Burns and the other half of the girls slowly walked forward past the starting line, and then into the nearby tree line, sacrificing one of their high school competitions.
Footage of the protest has since gone viral across social media, igniting widespread awareness for one of the trans athlete incidents currently plaguing Washington state.
For Burns, a Camas High School runner, the decision to protest was reinforced by strength in numbers. Her parents, Kevin and Sarah Burns, told OutKick their daughter initially wanted to avoid "making waves."
"She wanted to kind of play it safe, so we, we weren't going to push it. We just kind of let her kind of feel it out. We told her that. We supported her whichever decision she tries to make," Kevins said.
But then her teammates began talking.
The girls shared their concerns. They decided to act together. And her parents backed her.
"The more I heard about her friends wanting to do something, the more I heard about her team wanting to do something, we definitely were in support of that," Kevin said.
"We told her, do what you think is best."

Quite right.
The "whatever you decide, it is ok with us" on a very clear right-wrong issue is a gutless position that is actually the opposite of supportive. Perhaps the parent wished to avoid the criticism of "woke" neighbors.
Unfortunately, the child my someday look back on this and see it for what it was.
The male athlete, his parents, and all cross country race officials who were involved in letting this male race should be tried, convicted, and sentenced to be publicly flogged for child abuse, perversion, being a public nuisance, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and acting like a Demonicrat!!!
How about we just beat them with hammers, trials are for a more civilized time. Taboo needs some reestablishment
That is what it will take. Imagine the insanity of the guy starting the season on a boys’ team, then, when he couldn’t keep up, deciding it was because he’s a girl; and the school system swallowing it.
“Average” male ones might be giving these mediocre boys too much credit. It would be illustrative to know how he placed with the boys.
My guess is that these brave girls will face some kind of discipline by the lunatics in the school system.

The race had girls and a trans (fake) girl athlete. Whenever I see trans, I substitute the word fake in order to keep everything straight in my head.
I wouldn’t be surprised.
Maybe it’s wishful thinking on my part, but I’m sensing a growing fatigue regarding all this nonsense. More people daring to make fun of woke people and speak their mind about how they really feel about all this “trans” crap.
If I’m right and something is shifting - it could happen fast - and we’ll see a backlash against all this crap. I sure hope so.
It did happen almost over night with the Covid nonsense - one minute it seemed like everyone but me was wearing masks and getting tested. Then suddenly, nobody wanted to talk about it anymore.
Hopefully that happens with this trans nonsense.
The thing that gets me is that he isn’t even trying to LOOK like a female... at all. I almost wonder if he’s doing it just to expose the insanity of it - like Rush Limbaugh highlighting absurdity by being absurd.
The trials are important because the transcripts can be used to educate students in schools on what behavior violates established law and will result in arrest, indictment, trial, conviction, sentencing, and the results of that sentence.
Advocating the use of hammers and skipping any trial is just being histrionic.
The dude is just weird.
I think they’ll remember the hammers better then the shitty two tiered legal system we have, and the pathetic remedy it will emit
