Nidal Hasan is a savage Islamic terrorist who killed 13 innocent US service members at Fort Hood in 2009. He deserves the death penalty, nothing less.
But the idea of broadcasting his execution publicly — livestreaming it — is beyond grotesque.
America is supposed to be a model nation, with the highest values, a shining light that leads the world into a civilized future.
The spectacle of a publicized, glamorized execution sends us in the opposite direction.
It signals a type of gloating and bravado unbecoming a proud, moral country.
America is not a medieval caliphate. Our leaders aren’t supposed to act like jihadists.
Will Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who proposed the hideous extravaganza, next suggest filming captured, blindfolded Islamists on their knees, while US soldiers behead them?
Hasan’s death is meant to achieve justice for the horrific evil he perpetrated, not serve as a source of entertainment or pleasure for masses.

Other radical muslims will make him a martyr because in their warped minds he was he was executed for following what the koran commands about killing infidels.
I have no problem with the execution but making it public and especially in an election cycle among other reasons is a really bad mistake.
I strongly suspect sometime before the execution date it will be decided to not be made public.

We have done this for a quarter century, asking ourselves, “but how will it look to the Muslims of the world?”
It is time for us to cut our own path and the seriousness of a public execution in America of a muslim American military officer by our government sends a strong message to our citizens and the other citizens of the West, that it is time to grow up and face this reality of Islam, this is a deadly struggle and that we are showing our historical backbone and a new self awareness that we see the reality of what is.

Your words were that people who were for public executions were like the Taliban and were no better than the Taliban.

Those people are, by definition, already radicalized. You are not going to add any "converts" to the cause.
It would arguably be different if you were executing some maggot who killed in the name of a Palestinian homeland. Because at least there, the cause itself might garner some additional attention/sympathy. Or executing some IRA twat, etc.. You don't want to make them martyrs because you don't want to draw attention to their underlying cause.
This piece of dog excrement had no underlying cause other than murdering people in a medical clinic. I don't really see that "cause" getting positive attention from anyone that isn't already a twisted sack of canine excrement.
Politically...hey, if some Democrats want to come out of the woodwork and say they think this was a sweet guy who shouldn't be executed, be my guest. I don't think it will play well among swing voters.
Liberals were dancing in the streets when a health care executive was murdered - shot in the back...
Polls backed up that hatred - it wasn’t one or two - it was thousands of ‘em. ‘Liberals’ supported the murder.
They mocked and laughed when Charlie Kirk was murdered. Laughed at the orphaned children left behind.
But they’ll be sad when this killer dies - sad when an illegal is captured and deported. Sad when a ‘doctor’ is called down for sexually mutilating a child.
