Christa Pike, a Tennessee inmate who survived Tennessee’s attempt to execute her, is conscious and speaking as she continues to receive medical care at a hospital, according to a statement from her attorneys.
“Against all odds, Christa Pike is conscious, speaking, and continues to receive critical medical care. Despite the severe damage she endured to her arms, she is still handcuffed and shackled to the bed. Her recovery is medically unprecedented. Her prognosis remains unclear but, at a minimum, we expect a long recovery,” her attorneys said in a statement.
Pike survived two ostensibly lethal doses of pentobarbital last week after prison staff tried twice to carry out her planned execution for the 1995 murder of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer.

I’m sort of odds here. Wasn’t the objective to kill her? Or is it now to keep her alive so we can kill her again? I find the whole thing ridiculous. How long has she been on death row? Something like 35 years? She should have been history a long time ago.
Mmmmmmm. I somewhat disagree. They could wait. They salivated at the prospect of watching a sweet innocent woman slowly being starved and hydrated to death. Christa requested an all-female execution squad. She must’ve concluded that that was her only hope to survive. Too bad Lindsay Clancy wasn’t available to offer her expertise.
If they survived the Romans might let them go free but they would kill the executioners.
She demanded and got an all women team for this. I’m betting the DEI witches sabotaged it. Now she has a cruel and unusual case she can argue. I think she gets reduced to a life sentence.
From what I've read, the firing squad is the second most humane form of execution, after the gullotine.
You have my sympathy for the traffic.
> Terry Schiavo was unavailable for comment. <
That was a true Third Reich moment. Terri is a burden. So let’s just kill her.
Terri Schiavo was in a “vegetative state”. But It is also worth noting that she was conscious and able to communicate when the state decided to kill her.
“Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
- Matthew 25:40
Fortunately I don’t go up there.
“...at a minimum, we expect a long recovery”
Let’s hope it is a VERY short “recovery.”
I read that she refused a “ last meal”. It is very difficult to find a vein in which to insert a needle if a person is dehydrated. I wonder if her refusal to have a “last meal“ also had her refusing fluids.
I have had to go through Chattanooga and downtown Nashville several times a year for 40 years. About the time I die, I figure they will finally have Chattanooga fixed.
Her victim is not.
“Christa Pike is conscious and speaking after she survived Tennessee’s execution attempt, her attorneys say”
...and all choreographed by her execution team.
The victims family should sue the State of Tennessee for breach of contract and its fiduciary responsibility.
Like the south loop in Nashville. Nightmare.

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.
That was 30 years ago. A different person. If she was going to be executed, should have happened within one or two years of the crime.
Tennessee should have honored her request to be executed by firing squad. I’m guessing that her death sentence will now be commuted to life with the possibility of parole.
