The leaders of an unrecognized University of Wisconsin fraternity were arrested after cops found around 30 partially clothed teen pledges smeared in condiments and huddled in a sweltering, filthy basement.
Fraternity president Brayden J. Klein and vice president Samuel N. Vane, both 20, were arrested Wednesday for misdemeanor hazing and misdemeanor disorderly conduct after police discovered the troubling scene while acting on an anonymous tip.
Police entered the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity house in Madison around 8:20 p.m. Wednesday, and found the men, some of whom had “visible injuries consistent with being physically assaulted,” covered in food, condiments and other liquids, according to the incident report.
The room was muggy and overheated because a thermostat had been set to a sweltering 81 degrees, police said.
Everyone inside the home was escorted outside by police, and the pledges — the “vast majority” of whom were 18 years old — were checked for incapacitation and injuries.
Police described the fraternity as an “unrecognized and unaccredited” student organization, which was “terminated” by U of W more than a decade ago.

I knew it involved White students when the article switched from referring to them as teens and instead referred to them as men.
I wonder how was there a frat house if the fraternity was basically banned by the University? WOuldn’t the national chapter have revoked its charter?
And if those 18 year olds were considered capable of having the ability and maturity to tackle college life somebody forgot a major portion of college life often involves making really stupid choices.
This Florida gal got quite chuckle of the Post’s idea of “sweltering” as well.

Judging from the author’s disconnect between what is written above and the illustration from the article I can’t help but think the original lede included,
“I am a student at a small Midwestern college....”
And somehow this promotes brotherhood? How many of those hazees are still on board with the frat?
I tended to view in the same light the hazing handed out at the Naval Academy, and, to this day, wouldn’t piss on many of those nitwits if I saw them on fire.

Looking at the satellite view on Google maps, it looks like the apartment building I first lived in in Madison.
Oh boy, you’re about to piss off every Chief Petty Officer and Sailor on these boards. We went through things like this. Chief’s Initiation, Shellback, Bluenose and a couple more. We aren’t stupid. It was about Esprit De’ Corps. Something most Americans no NOTHING about these days. We definitely had your type of folks who didn’t want to play ball. We stuck ‘em in a room by themselves and told them to stay put. After it was all over, several of them had remorse about not participating. Their relationships with those who did participate changed. They weren’t one of “us” anymore.
I need friends so bad, I will humiliate myself and pay money....please, please, please, I beg you....

It's always funner on the Genuine side, even if I still had a blast as a Select.
How does any college student have time for this nonsense?
I was pretty much full time studying the material I was paying good money to learn. Friday night and maybe Saturday night were for blowing off steam. Then Sunday night, back to the books. And the quadrille paper. And the calculator. And maybe the computer.
Squatting in squalor covered in filth was simply not on the agenda. You have time for that? Really? GET A REAL MAJOR!
