“””The goal of the law is to stop anyone from being turned away from a salon. “””””””””

Option B.......just go to a salon that specializes in the hair style you want.

What’s the big deal? Just learn to pin on hair extensions and blonde wigs.

This is crazy. Black hair seems a specialty, and the ladies who have been specializing in it are going to be pissed.

I watch videos of hairdressers doing braids on black hair. It really is an art, and takes HOURS.

This doesn’t make sense that hairdressers would be forced into working with hair that really needs specialized care. Even washing it wrong can mess it up. If I were a black person, I would want someone who really knows how and WANTS to do the long, tedious process of styling/maintaining my hair, and not someone who is being forced to learn the bare minimum about how to do it (the article says overall training time to get licensed won’t be affected). I guess the stylist could charge extra for the skill and time spent, but then that would probably be illegal, too. SMH

This stinks of virtue signaling by city hall.

That is easy. Just start selling hair hats (wigs) in the salon.

I let a Korean shop cut my (male) hair one time, and sure enough, it looked like that common Korean cut.

New law requires NY hairdressers to learn how to do all hair types, including Black hair.

This new requirement is for a cosmetology license. The ability to cut and style different types of hair - including "black hair" -- has been a requirement for a NY barbers license for many years. The requirement runs both directions in that black barbers must also be able to cut "white hair."

In the Universal Hot Crazy matrix Hairdressers are in the danger zone. This will just make them even more dangerous.

If I am bald but I identify as a person with hair, can I sue them if they refuse to give me an afro?

This is normally taught in cosmetology school (at least in Memphis).

If they have a school and license requirement then being familiar with all types of hair and related areas seems like it should be normal.

I demand that they also learn how to do bald people too. We old, bald guys (and especially cancer patients of all chromosomic and age variants) need to be able to go to any hairdresser and feel catered to.
