The latest 3 movies were fantastic IMHO matching the old characters in their younger forms! but from what I heard, Chris Pine, James T. Kirk, was not pleasant to work with...

I liked the JJ abrams Star trek movies when I first watched them, but then realized later that they were typical JJ - flash and bang but eminently forgettable and definitely not star trek.

The JJ Abrmas movies traded thought-provoking diplomacy, science, and ethical dilemmas for generic sci-fi action, explosions, and frenetic pacing.

There was also his sloppy plotting—such as instantaneous “transwarp beaming” across galaxies or characters watching planets implode from nearby star systems—which ignored the established Star Trek (or even actual physcial) scale of space travel.

At least he didn’t put his trademark “mystery box” (Lost, DisneyWars etc) - so that’s there.

it was flashy, but they damaged the franchise imho

Truly enjoyed those movies. Sorry to hear Pine was a pain.

“suck all three of them and don’t even get me started on discovery. this sucked to varying degrees and for various reasons but without exception they’re all utterly mindless dull creatively bankrupt disasters that have almost nothing to do with the original franchise beyond the title and character names they worked so hard to sponge off.

And the crown jewel in this shit-covered monument to mediocrity has to be star trek into darkness why because it takes the very best and most revered movie of the entire Star Trek franchise bends it over a table and has its way with it to such a horrific degree that the original needed to be booked into a fancy London clinic from major reconstructive surgery”

I totally agree. I watched The Menagerie Pts 1 and 2 two days ago. I’m currently watching Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. I’m not sure about some of the characters, but they do have some great story lines.

I know it hasn’t had good reviews, but I liked Star Trek the Motion Picture. The Wrath of Kahn was great.
