No. 16 Michigan avoided an upset loss to Western Michigan on Saturday night with a little help from instant replay.
Bryce Underwood hit JJ Buchanan for an incredible Hail Mary as time expired for a 13-12 win. The pass came after the ball was snapped with one second left after Underwood's previous Hail Mary appeared to fall incomplete with no time remaining.
After a short review, a second was added back to the clock. And then Buchanan made the catch.
NBC's numerous replays of the first Hail Mary showed that the ball was not close to touching a Western Michigan player who had stepped out of bounds when he jumped for the pass until the clock showed 0:00. Rules analyst and former referee Terry McAuley was unable to come up with a concrete explanation for why a second was added to the clock.

Rutgers is more hated. But the Big 10 got what they wanted...the New York City area.
Now everyone is laughing at Rutgers, after UMass whupped them.
Even if they don’t get the 1st down, it would have been close enough to go for it on fourth down, and clinch the game.
Same way of cheating that democrats use in elections.
Go Ohio State!đ
When it happens again, and for gambling interests you can count on it, it will henceforth be known as a “Michigan Mulligan”.
DraftKings Sportsbook gave it to them.
Fixed
Iâm gonna let you figure that one out on your own.
I have confidence in you!
It will be interesting to see how their yacking heads treat this obscenity.
Will they toe the company line and avoid a rift with the Big 10 that has an agreement with NBC to air prime time Big 10 games and admit that the clocks NBC aired (both scoreboard and their own graphic) showing zeros were wrong and that the Big 10 officiating team got it right while NBC somehow had faulty, real time graphics, or will they say that one second being put back on the clock was wrong and that the Big 10âs so-called âproofâ is suspect.
There seems to be confusion about what clocks are where, and what is or isn’t “the official clock” . . .

I’m convinced DraftKings controls the clocks ... and likely have for some time!
Even the Michigan coach is caught mouthing what looks like the words There wasnât any time to the WM coach.
What a joke.
I wonder if the actual name of the person that made the final decision to add one second will ever be made public.
Ridiculous and absurd.
It is kinda cute how NBC is showing the play and game clock during their current broadcast of Washington vs. Washington St. as if it portrays any semblance of accuracy or relevance.
So the coaches and players do not know,,,,,,,do not see,,,,or do not react to,,,,,,the time we all see. So the REAL time, to the second, is kept hidden. That makes senseâŚ..(rolling eyes here).
