No. 16 Michigan avoided an upset loss to Western Michigan on Saturday night with a little help from instant replay.
Bryce Underwood hit JJ Buchanan for an incredible Hail Mary as time expired for a 13-12 win. The pass came after the ball was snapped with one second left after Underwood's previous Hail Mary appeared to fall incomplete with no time remaining.
After a short review, a second was added back to the clock. And then Buchanan made the catch.
NBC's numerous replays of the first Hail Mary showed that the ball was not close to touching a Western Michigan player who had stepped out of bounds when he jumped for the pass until the clock showed 0:00. Rules analyst and former referee Terry McAuley was unable to come up with a concrete explanation for why a second was added to the clock.

Historically, yes, Michigan has cheating in their DNA. However, what LSU is doing this season is far worse than cheating in one game. LSU is setting up a cheating season and doing it in everyone’s faces.
The rule is “when the ball touches something out of bounds”
WMU totally outplayed them for 60 minutes,,,,,,,unfortunately, this game was played for 60 minutes, one second,,,with a bonus Hail Mary play.
The face mask penalty that wasn’t called on Michigan late in the game didn’t help either,,,,,it was on a third down and stopped a WMU drive.
That looks like it was made by a middle school computer science student.

WMU also proved a QB taking a snap underneath center is a lost art in college football...that was a terrible play call when they had it deep in Michigan territory on 3rd and 2 with the botched shotgun snap...if they get the 1st down- game over...
Ohio State’s legendary coach Woody Hayes was opposed to instant replays because they drag out the games. He thought we should “call ‘em as we see ‘em.”
I remember that 1972 game. Even I knew we got screwed, and I was only ten.
However, in this case, a clock with tenth seconds showing wasn't necessary because it wasn't that close. The clock hit 0:00 well before anyone touched the ball. Game was over.
When the rankings are posted this year, there should be an asterisk next to Michigan all year……..i.e. Roger Maris’s 61st home run.

The Big 10, the most overrated football conference. Rutgers lost to UMass on Thursday. Yes, UMass, last year’s only winless college football team.

No, ask any UConn football fan, Rutgers is more hated. But the Big 10 got what they wanted...the New York City area.

As a UConn fan, we want to be the first university to win College Football, Men's basketball, Women's basketball and Ice Hockey in the same year. UConn does more with less and that is why the Power Conferences don't want us in.
Some of us UConn fans want to go to the Big 12. A rivalry game against Kansas Basketball would be epic...
Which play is that?
If it’s the “extra” play and the catch was made inbounds by a UM player, it’s a touchdown for the win. If it’s the previous play that fell incomplete, the game should be over because the clock is at 0:00.
Doesn’t matter - it was decided to give them an extra play by the replay booth.
Not the on field officials. But - to your point it was a big 10 replay booth.
