No. 16 Michigan avoided an upset loss to Western Michigan on Saturday night with a little help from instant replay.
Bryce Underwood hit JJ Buchanan for an incredible Hail Mary as time expired for a 13-12 win. The pass came after the ball was snapped with one second left after Underwood's previous Hail Mary appeared to fall incomplete with no time remaining.
After a short review, a second was added back to the clock. And then Buchanan made the catch.
NBC's numerous replays of the first Hail Mary showed that the ball was not close to touching a Western Michigan player who had stepped out of bounds when he jumped for the pass until the clock showed 0:00. Rules analyst and former referee Terry McAuley was unable to come up with a concrete explanation for why a second was added to the clock.

Same for Galarraga’s throwing of a “perfect” game…..

WTF was Joyce looking at?
There was too much money on the game to let WMU win.
Big Ten: “Hey Grok, make me a video showing 0:01 on the game clock. And also make it sound like NASA talking to astronauts on the moon.”
That “miraculous” one second was absolutely criminal. Corruption at its finest.
No wonder more people are walking away from College football.
Your comparison of the ‘72 game to this farce is flooding X.
Gambling influence, for sure.
I only watch NHL and an occasional golf major.
We “beat” a 27 point underdog MAC team!

Pathetic.
I agree
I watched it
Stunned
Michigan has a strong journalist and institutional favoritism at play
Like notre dame
I’ve watched several videos that were uploaded in the last couple of hours, and this video discusses the Big Ten released reply center video:

Had he thrown the perfect game, nobody would ever remember it or him.
But this blown call has made him famous forever......
To your point, per AI...
“Game Betting LinesSpread: Michigan -27.5 (-110) / Western Michigan +27.5 (-110)Over/Under (Total): 49.5 points
Moneyline: Michigan around -5000 to -7692 / Western Michigan around +1600 to +1917
Despite the heavy spread, Michigan narrowly escaped with a controversial 13-12 win via a walk-off Hail Mary, failing to cover the 27.5-point spread.”
More from AI, this one sourced from FanDuel...
The Impact of the Loss: If Michigan had failed to complete their last-second 13-12 Hail Mary victory, every single straight bet and parlay ticket featuring a Michigan victory would have instantly been destroyed. Given Michigan’s massive national betting profile, this would have resulted in millions of dollars in losses across major sportsbooks like DraftKings and FanDuel. Conversely, the small fraction of bettors who took Western Michigan at +2000 would have cashed out at 20-to-1 odds.”
I think the FBI finally needs to get medieval on NCAAF.
I couldn’t copy it from reddit, but I saw one picture of Truman holding up a newspaper with the headline “Western Michigan Defeats Michigan”.
Western Michigan got completely screwed....
Not a gambler, but even this result is not going to help most people who bet.
The spread was not met, the over was not met. Not many simply bet on winner or loser so imagine most who bet on Michigan still lost, the touchdown meant little to most except for ishigans overall record.
If this is not a one off then TTUN is in for a rough season
Well it is ishigan 😂🤪
The Big Ten should drop Michigan. They’re a disgrace on many fronts.
I watched the 1st half and went to bed. Michigan looked horrible.
Completely agree. “Legalized” betting has ruined sports on just about every level.
