France just wiped Google and Microsoft off 2.5 million government computers.

Germany moved 30,000 PCs off Windows. Denmark binned Microsoft Office. All of it in the last 18 months.

Here's exactly what they replaced it with, and how to do the same tonight:

1/ Swap Out Gmail

Gmail's AI reads your emails by default. There's a class action running over precisely that.

Swap to: ProtonMail. Free, Swiss, encrypted end to end. No AI reading it, and outside US jurisdiction entirely.

Search "Proton Mail" → sign up → start moving anything sensitive over.

2/ Swap Out Google Search

Every search builds your ad profile. That profile goes on to train Google's AI.

Swap to: DuckDuckGo. The same results for everyday searching, with no tracking and nothing stored.

Open your browser settings → Search engine → make DuckDuckGo your default

3/ Swap Out Google Drive

Anything sitting in Google Drive falls under the CLOUD Act.

Swap to: Proton Drive (encrypted, free tier), or keep the sensitive files on a local drive or an encrypted USB.

Keep Google Drive for things you wouldn't mind a stranger reading.

4/ Swap Out Chrome

Chrome tells Google every site you open. And it now ships with a 4GB AI model nobody asked for.

Swap to: Brave or Firefox. Both block trackers from the moment you install them, with nothing running in the background.

Download either → import your bookmarks when it asks. Two minutes.

5/ Swap Out WhatsApp And iMessage

Both belong to US companies. Both fall under US law.

Swap to: Signal. End-to-end encrypted, open source, nothing stored on their servers. Free and no ads.

Download it → move your private conversations over.

6/ Swap Out Microsoft Office

Everything you type into Word, Excel or PowerPoint passes through Microsoft's servers.

Swap to: LibreOffice. Free, open source, works offline. Your documents stay on your own machine.

Download it → every file you already own opens straight away.

7/ Swap Out Google Maps

Google Maps records every route, every stop, every search you make.

Swap to: Organic Maps (completely offline, no tracking) or OsmAnd (open source).

Both run on OpenStreetMap data and neither needs an account.

LibreOffice Base is not a good replacement for Microsoft Access. I use Access 2013 on a Win10 box with no MS account. Microsoft has neglected Access in favor of SQL Server, so there are few compelling features on newer versions

I’ve already had a proton mail account for years. It works great.

I switched to the Brave Browser years ago and for any search that is remotely political, I use Yandex.

Obviously Google cannot be trusted. Duck Duck Go runs Google so you’ll get the same biased search results Google gives you.

I am at a point in life where I don’t need anything. I have more clothes and home stuff (tools, bedding, junk) than I can use. So basically, I only buy groceries, truck fuel, twice a week meal out, and occasional beer at a dance hall. I have 4 things on autopay.

Got my Android, downloaded Signal. What’s the first thing I see? “Choose a phone number that’s assigned to your phone, and Google will share it only with this app. Google won’t store the phone number you share with this app in your Google account.”
What good is it if Google is already involved? Tell me how to ungoogle!
Seriously, is there any point unless I use a Linux phone? Because Google is deeply embedded in the Android.
