Florida becomes first state to ban welfare for tattoos, video games, theme parks, other "non-essential" goods

Once again, Florida leads the way in conservative government.

Apparently, "fascists" down in Florida don't want taxpayers to be purchasing the neck tattoos and Disney World tickets for people who are on welfare.

The takeaway here is that the other 49 states ARE paying for the tattoos and video games for welfare recipients.

This is a real thing that goes on everywhere in the United States.

Except Florida.

From Fox News:

Florida is the first state to impose sweeping new limits on how welfare cash can be spent, blocking recipients from using cash-assistance benefits loaded onto EBT cards for purchases like tattoos, theme park tickets, video games, vaping products and other items not generally considered 'basic needs' under a plan the Trump administration is urging other states to emulate.

Florida's cash-assistance program, known as Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA), is funded through the federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program. It is separate from SNAP, the food-assistance program, though families may receive both types of benefits through separate balances on the same EBT card.

The Department of Health and Human Services' Administration for Children and Families (ACF) determined Florida's updated TANF plan to be complete Thursday in a letter sent to Gov. Ron DeSantis and obtained by Fox News Digital. The letter praised the Sunshine State governor for putting 'common-sense restrictions' on what it calls inappropriate, luxury and non-essential purchases.

So, if you're on EBT, we not only have to pay for your Kool-Aid pineapples, because you need to eat, after all, but we also just give you free money with no strings attached that you can use almost anywhere for any reason? Tattoos? Vapes? Grand Theft Auto?

The governor's press release announcing the change also cites 'Psychic and fortune-telling services' among those purchases that will be prohibited.

Times are tough. We are poor. The family is starving........So I think I’ll go get another tattoo.

Yep. Sigh.

When I see people begging on the street corners I do have some pity for them in the short term, but I know that in the long term, they've made some poor choices in life.

EBT has two sides. EBT food and EBT cash, which is general welfare. Not all qualify for the EBT cash, but a vast amount do.

In some states (all?) as soon as a person qualifies for one welfare type payment, they automatically qualify for about eight others without any further need to apply. Considering that some programs, such as free school lunches, require no upfront verification of income, the scamming must be enormous.

This is a complete outrage. It is no wonder that people on welfare do not want to get a job because they were their actual income would go way down. Many of their freebies provided by people ( taxpayers) who do work are not even counted in their income. There are so many different subsidy programs such as section 8 housing, utility assistance, Medicaid, Obamaphones, free Internet, etc.

I have often wondered how so many people could afford to pay for the tattoos they have. I understand they are kind of expensive. Not that I know personally.

Indiana needs to do this…pronto!

Better to get rid of government charity altogether.

Florida is in a unique position to do that as they can just tell everyone to go forage in the Everglades.

Don’t be a wise guy. Everyone knows that face, neck, and hand tattoos in particular boost a person’s chances of getting a good job

Instead of creating a growing list of things you can’t buy how about just stating what is allowed- food- bread, eggs, milk, cheese, meat, ... AND NOTHINGS ELSE

That's what I always thought. No snacks, alcohol or anything else that isn't basic, healthy food.

All welfare people should receive is 3 MRE’s per day per person. That’s it. I know some will feel this is “insensitive” but it is “insensitive” of welfare-ers to become a dependent parasite who sits around all day eating snacks and sipping sodas..at the expense of those who work. The welfare advocates (who often grift the welfare “industry”) and those on welfare need to change their pathetic negative attitudes, go to work and stop with the excuses.

The media is very good at keeping information from the public when they want to.

As bad as misinformation, blacking out news they don’t want us to know about.

...qualify for the EBT cash...

When I sold encyclopedias, we were taught to use the word "qualify" to trick the customer into thinking he had done something worthy.

EBT should be good for beans, rice, and milk. Nothing more.

How about …. how many generations?

Republicans are so stupid (corrupt and against us?) that they do not even inform the public that it was Dem president Lyndon Johnson, who, when he got the civil rights act supposedly said in private ….. “ I’ll have those n’s voting Democrat for the next 200 years.” Johnson and the Dems are responsible for the welfare state and the destruction of the black family.

Since it’s not on tape, no one can prove whether he said it or not but I just asked AI for the quote and got it immediately. When has something not being on tape stopped Democrats from accusing Republicans?

Instead, Republican politicians allow Democrats to accuse Republicans of being racist. They should listen to the Chris Plante radio show when he gives his litany of the things that Dems did against the rights of African-Americans. Slavery, Jim Crow, confederacy, lynchings, etc. were all done by Dems.
