We are probably alone (11 mins)
The Ancient Dog ^ | 08/05/2026 | Professor Edmund Whitmore

Posted on 08/29/2026 7:42:49 PM PDT by Az Joe

Professor Edmund Whitmore takes the stage to make an argument most scientists won't say out loud: that we are probably alone in the universe. Not "we haven't found anyone yet." Actually alone. The only technological civilization that exists, or has ever existed, within any distance that matters.

People who believe in extraterrestrial life have no hard proof, only speculation and wishful thinking. It is simply because they want to believe it.

I myself am open to the raw possibility, but not the probability because of the number of real disqualifying factors. We simply have no hard data at this time.

That was excellent-thanks for posting it.

I got the book “Cosmos” by Carl Sagan as a gift way back in the early Eighties, and although I enjoyed reading it, I never really bought into it.

I grasped the odds Sagan was presenting...and even though I am optimistic by nature, I still didn’t accept it beyond entertainment.

And here we are-going on twenty years-only twenty years!- since the introduction of the iPhone. Consumer level digital cameras are nearly obsolete if not wholly obsolete, and nearly 5 billion people worldwide ae walking around with a phone that can take good quality photos and video in seconds, 24x7.

And yet, we still have very few (if any) compelling evidence recorded. There is US Naval footage and purported encounters that sound interesting, but that is it. Wouldn’t it be likely that someone-somewhere-somehow could have captured some form of imagery?

If the universe is truly is large and vast as physicist and astronomer, then it was essentially a statistical impossibility that we’re alone

We are now up to two trillion galaxies. That is staggering. And we know its even more than that.

No one would like to move to Mars more than me, okay maybe Elon.

Its becoming clear to me that we (humans made in the image of the Holy God of the Bible) do not have authority outside of this Earth which he has given to us.

Can we hurl our bodies out there and get to the Moon, Mars, sure, even Titan and the asteroid belt. After that it gets a bit dodgy with timelines. Even a solar Zeppelin craft hovering in the atmosphere of Venus at a permanent 68 degrees is possible. A cave on the South Pole of the Moon with a crater filled with frozen comet water nearby, sure. That should be our goal right now.

Earth has protective shielding, we would need to take everything with us. Enough for a single person is difficult, for a colony it is significant.

Sure lets keep planning. I’m not opposed to going.

Gravity and the effect on our eyeballs after a long trip may be impactful. Heart damage like the Apollo astronauts experienced? And we wont be able to walk after we spend nine months traveling to Mars in zero G. We will need artificial everything just to live, not thrive.

The radiation protection by Earths magnetic field will be gone. We will have to take everything, oxygen, warmth, power, water, food, radiation shielding, everything. Hopefully even weak gravity spinning in a huge craft. And God protect us if even a garden sized rock impacts our craft moving at 1/10th the speed of light.

I believe this is why we see UAPs/UFOs in space, from Zechariah 5:1–4, a flying scroll measuring 20 by 10 cubits (about 30 feet long and 15 feet wide). Representing God’s judgment and curse of the law going out before us. How far can we take our fallen nature out into the void?

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

The same was in the beginning with God.

All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

Regardless whether he’s right, the message is tainted because it’s delivered via an AI-created video.

Get away from this evil world and all the evil in it. I would be happy to exist alone on a planet with only me and God.

“Woe unto them that join house to house, that lay field to field, till there be no place, that they may be placed alone in the midst of the earth!” - Isaiah 5:8

Re: UFOs

Re: The government is “hiding” the “proof” of extraterrestrial life.

I am reasonably certain that if someone/something were able to cross the vastness of space, and visit Earth, it could go, hover wherever the frak it desires.

Because you asked I’ll share something, and please take it for what you paid for it. Or if you think it better to ignore it.

“I told them, ‘If you think it best, give me my pay; but if not, keep it.’ So they paid me thirty pieces of silver.” - Zechariah 11:12

Back in 2011. I was studying prophesy and had reached certain conclusions about how the end would come. What events still had to occur before that day would arrive.

I was praying and asking where we are and what still needed to happen. Yes, the Gospel will be preached as a witness to all nations and then the end will come. But what does this look like.

I had a dream that night that seemed to go on for hours, all night long, and I know how a dream may last only a few short minutes, but this one felt different and seemed to never end.

In the dream all night long in random scene after scene, someone different would come up to me and say these words:

“Isaiah Chapter 5 has to happen first”

I woke up feeling almost exhausted and wondered about it and then immediately opened the bible and started reading Isaiah Chapter 5. They call evil good, yes. Judge between me and my vineyard, a court goes into session, yes. But still not it.

I read it over and over again maybe 20 times, its a short chapter, and wondering just WHAT had to happen first?

Then I realized it was Isaiah 5:8.

It’s AI generated perfessor, folks. Supposedly the observable universe is 93 million years wide as during the 13.8 billion years it took light to each us, the universe expanded. There is no perfesser. All AI. Good object lesson on how to discern what is AI or not. Stereotypical mannerisms, almost monotonic delivery. Hand waving with little body shift. Speaking theoretical concepts as though verified facts. “Life occured once!” How could anyone verify that? Life started on a hot rock...conjectural for lack of any objective evidence of how life starts.
Beware earthlings! You are being had. About as valid as “I took a lickin’ from a chicken” toy.

Isn’t it a moot point because of the incomprehensible distances?

GOD separated Earth’s various cultures and continents by great distances and vast oceans that worked quite well for thousands upon thousands of years
to keep different civilizations in their own territory and prevented mass “diversity” from polluting and eventually destroying different cultures.

But foolish people gradually developed technologies to overcome the great distances involved and mankind around the world is now being dragged down
to the lowest levels by uncontrolled mass migration.

Can it be that GOD has also separated solar systems and galaxies by greater distances that serve very well to keep mankind as we know it isolated for its own good?

I’m agnostic on the subject. Our data set (one civilization....only about 100 years of sending radio signals into space) is so small and such a short period of time that we cannot be confident in our broader conclusions. Not yet. Maybe not for many human lifetimes. The earliest human signals would have only reached a tiny way out into the vast Galaxy let alone the entire universe.

I actually owned a ‘67 Satellite wagon with a 225 slant 6. Slow, but was a great motorcycle hauler. Had a trailer hitch, had a 3 rail motorcycle trailer, hauled motocross bikes in high school. Back cargo area was great for gas cans, toolbox, gear, cooler.

24 hours at light speed is nothing, even inside our own galaxy. The nearest star is about 4-1/4 light years away. Distance has no bearing on whether there is life “out there”, only on the chances that we creatures who have only been around for something less than a cosmic eyeblink can find other life with our current primitive technology.

Your argument makes as much sense as Ben Franklin stepping outside his door, looking around, and concluding that coelacanths do not exist.

Even if we had proper means to detect life or lack of it, MUCH further away than Voyager has gone, say, a sphere 100 light years in diameter, our experience is essentially “zero”. That volume compared to the Universe is roughly like comparing a large grain of sand to the entire Earth. If you have improper perspective on Earth’s size relative to your own perception, you need to try walking and swimming around it.

The only really useful things we know, relevant to the question of “is there life out there?”, are that life on THIS rock occupies a very wide range of extreme environments, and, even if we limit ourselves to life requiring liquid water, we are finding liquid water, often in vast volumes, in many bodies in our solar system. Yes, it is usually in water with ammonia in it. So what? Ever hear of Kakabekia barghoorniana? It LIKES ammonia, up to 50% at pH levels above 9. Yet it also tolerates oxygen well.

In truth, beyond the observations I just noted about adaptability and water, we are about a trillion trillion times too inadequate to do a conclusive search to override those observations.

to me, it is inconceivable that we are the only life of any form in the entire universe...100’s of billions of stars just in our own galaxy, each possibly with dozens of planets in the vicinity, and then perhaps 2 trillion other galaxies, each with their own billions of stars and planets...

Statistically speaking, us being alone just makes no sense.
