Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird wrote in an op-ed for The Daily Wire that she is suing California for leading the charge in the lawsuit against the Paramount–Warner Bros. merger.
“California is once again trying to be the country’s regulator. And once again California is defying common sense to raise costs around the country,” Bird wrote.
Bird argues that “any Iowa family” would tell you the cost of streaming is too high and that there are “fewer quality shows” to choose from. She says these are symptoms of one company getting “too far in front,” and the competitors being “too small to catch up.”
“Netflix dominates the market for streaming,” Bird wrote. “Paramount+ and HBO Max together are smaller than Netflix, smaller than Disney, and smaller than Amazon. The merger could create a company to compete

I believe you since I’ve already admitted I don’t even know what it means. The Braves/Dodgers game last night in Atlanta was broadcast on FOUR DIFFERENT television channels. I couldn’t believe it...I switched from one to the other to see which I liked best. One of the Braves REGULARS for color commentary - Jeff Francoeur - was on a channel I never knew carried the games. I usually watch on Braves Vision (new this year) or FOX network...To make it even more confusing, there are some Braves games that aren’t broadcast at all - except on “apple” whatever that is...A relative in San Diego tears his hair out trying to find the Padres games.

The streamers are taking advantage of HBO’s lawsuit in 1975 against the FCC. Trump is trying to reign in the streamers by pushing reinstatement of the Protected Lists.
With AI, I think individual independent studios are the future.
It isn’t that difficult to just abstain from movies. Books, at least the old ones, are better than any movie. Since I’m getting older, I can read books multiple times, each time seems like the first. ;-D
True. I had lost interest in movies a long time. Aside from schlepping my daughters to a few of the age appropriate kids’s movies when they were young, I hadn’t darkened the door of a theater in 20 years.
Then I stumbled across my eye-opener film, realized I had a blind spot, and reengaged.
But again, the upcoming generations are screen addicted. They’re going to be watching something. Movies and tv are still shapers of culture.
It makes a difference who dominates the industry even if we ourselves have lost interest. I’ll never enroll in another college and my kids are out of school. But I’m still concerned with how the educational system is run.
California is practicing lawfare against a company that the LeftWorld types think is politically incorrect. The outcome matters.

Streaming needs to die. As a practical matter, I’d like to see automatic renewals prohibited and to make all renewals opt-in rather than opt-out. Couple that with a mandatory report — perhaps monthly when renewal rolls around, or quarterly — telling each subscriber exactly what he watched on that platform in the reporting period.
A LOT of people would see that they’re paying $20 a month to a streamer on which they’ve not actually watched anything in a long time, and nothing good farther back than they can remember.
Streamers should also have to report to subscribers on their data harvesting: what is collected on each subscriber and to whom it has been sold. The streamers already have this information. It drives their algorithms and directs their marketing teams. I don’t know what the format should look like, but IMHO transparency and consumer right to know are winning issues.

Game 1 of the Braves-Dodgers games was one of the 25 games that BravesVision (which is jointly owned by WANF and the Braves) syndicated to its markets.
One thing the Braves are considering is expanding from 25 games to more games available locally. If the Trump Administration pushes for reinstating the Protected List, WANF could air all games during the season.
They’ll all still fail anyways. But I agree.
They aren’t learning from thsir mistzkes. More people are rebuilding the8r physical media collections.
If you stream or pay to see a movie, you don’t own anything.

I agree. I’m pretty selective about buying physical media, but when I find a keeper, I’ll buy the DVD or Blu-ray. If the streamer even bothers to issue physical media.
I don’t trust the streamers to keep things available. And they have started to edit. Han shot first.
Yeah. But so what if he did? He had a gun pulled on him and being held at gunpoint, and he was able to misdirect and shoot first. I really never understood why it was a big deal in the first place. Its people who don’t understand guns making a major deal about who fires first.
