Vance is repeated standard Catholic teaching. John Paul II connected the "dignity of the human person" to the freedom to choose to develop one's skills. That sees to have fallen out of current Catholic social teaching. Denial of opportunity can be accomplished by a socialistic government; but it can also be effectively denied by an oligarchy, as we are finding out.

I would add, as a native French speaker, almost no one in America pronounces laissez faire correctly, which is Ok. As long as it's not like they say "Des Plaines" near Chicago.

The dignity of the human person doesn’t involve mercantilism.

Government is there to protect life, liberty, and property. Not pick winners and losers. Unless you’re Mamdani. Or Vance.
