The job of government may be to protect life, liberty, and property. But the job of the American government is to protect the life, liberty, and property of Americans.

And John Paul II's teaching that the dignity of the human person requires respect for opportunity for individuals to develop talents and earn money is quite close to free market doctrine.

Anyone interested should watch Vance's discussion with Catholic Bishop Barron, where he makes quite clear that while he accepts Catholic teaching about ends, he strongly disagrees with the current hierarchy about means.
