My brother & I had both varieties back to back one summer. At the time they were known as Red & German measles. This was back in the day when doctors made house calls so our pediatrician came by to check on us. It was pretty miserable because houses back then had no central air ... in fact, no window AC units.
Then there was the chicken pox. Mom brought our new baby brother home from the hospital & of course, my brother & I wanted to see him, etc. I was 7, he was 4. The next day, both of us had red spots all over - we had the ‘pox’! Good timing, no? Our new little brother got a gamma globulin shot & did not get sick at that time. I think he got chicken pox around 6 or 7. Both boys got the mumps vax but I was beyond that ‘window’ & never got it, nor did I get the actual mumps.
I got one flu shot (orders from mom) as a senior in high school - some strain was going around that had everyone scared & they had set up mass vaccinations at the State Fair grounds. That was the last jab I ever got - no flu shots, pneumonia or anything else.
I had chicken pox in 3rd grade, so I could get shingles, and am still debating whether to get the shot or not. Even if you get the shot there is no guarantee you won’t get shingles anyway...............
