The last birth cohort shown on the graph ends 1993, but the inflection point is 1973,Roe v. Wade, which, to me, means that kids in leftist households grew up preponderantly as “the only child;” that was strongly incorporated into the world view espoused by their parents through abortion, culturally as well. (There’s also the longer term trend with more univrsal tendency for families to tend toward replacement at 2 children) Although the oldest cohort is beyond child-bearing age, the youngest cohort is still having kids. I wonder whether the fertility decrement may also be related to leftist women , like AOC, delaying child bearing until late thirties /early forties .(This actually worked out ok in my family (4), but it wasn’t a matter of choice). Biology will reap an increasing toll, especially as the Fauci/ vax death spiral, greater leftist acceptance of vax during pregnancy, will intensify it. Well , they say in a few generations the Amish will outnumber everybody else.
