Walmart Under Weighs Its Bacon
YouTube ^ | 8/7/2026 | Jimmy Wrigg

Earlier I posted about Kroger short-weighing a package of chicken I bought. Jimmy Wrigg has a number of videos about Walmart short weighing beef and chicken. Well, he's back and the prepackage bacon 1lb packages are a much as 2.5oz short of the required 16oz target. Evidently, the FDA allows a 1oz variation, but that should be randomly distributed if it's truly and error, with some packages with more that 16oz and some within 1oz less. Jimmy has yet to find one that's over by an ounce.

Solution: weigh the package before you buy it.

I can’t speak for the entire country ... just for several gas stations in parts of WV and adjacent parts of VA ...

But there, yes. my gas cans and the pumps tell the same set of lies. Perhaps I should calibrate my gas cans, just to be sure. 😁

Doesn’t matter. Walmart is the seller and that is where the interaction between buyers and sellers happens. Buyers will now decrease the demand for that brand of bacon and, in turn, Walmart will have to fix things with the vendor. Walmart had the same problem with Kentucky Legend ham, causing that company to do a recall on the product. With enough pressure, the vendor of the bacon will have to do the same thing or face pressure from the FDA.

I had to point out to my less-than-mathematically-astute buddies ...

... the same people who insist that, even though you're selling each item at a loss, you can make your profits by selling in bulk.

True. The other day Kroger had bacon (Smithville??) on sale for $3.99/lb. However, mixed in with the 1lb packages were 12oz packages which use the same packaging except for the weight. I think this mixing of packages was intentional by Kroger.

The package I bought was 15oz, but evidently that’s acceptable to the FdA.

This might explain when it seems my package of bacon seems like there’s a “little extra.” It only happens when they “accidently” give me the full pound!

I knew it!

Also, sellers “glaze” their shrimp with water and freeze it. By repeating this glazing, you end up paying for the ice. Wriggs did a video on this and found that a 2lb bag of glazed shrimp contains 4oz of water.

Toilet paper is kind of a tough one because of varying thicknesses. Walmart seems to havea lot of hidden little secrets when it comes to their products & what you get for your money. For instance....one product they sell has mention of so many items in package, but not the total weight(as far as I can tell anyway). So you don’t know if you’re getting shortchanged or not. Another example....Walmart sells these pudding packs. Some are pretty good. One of them (same price as the others)has “no sugar added” & so tasteless that you may as well eat wallpaper paste.

There is no legitimate or legal way to underpump gas or trick the meter at the pump. Gas pumps are legally required to be highly calibrated and are strictly regulated by state Departments of Agriculture and Weights and Measures to ensure accurate dispensing.Attempts to manipulate pumps, bypass meters, or alter pulsers are forms of felony fuel theft.

You can safely and legally reduce your fuel costs through these established methods:

Use Station Loyalty Programs: Many gas station chains offer their own apps or rewards cards (like Exxon Mobil Rewards+, Shell Fuel Rewards, or BP me) that save you 5 to 15 cents per gallon.

Join Grocery Store Rewards: Major grocery chains like Giant, Safeway, and Harris Teeter (prominent in the Linton Hall, VA area) offer gas point programs. Every $100 spent on groceries typically earns you 10 to 20 cents off per gallon at partner stations (such as Giant or Shell).

Leverage Cash-Back Credit Cards: Many credit cards offer 3-5% cash back on gas purchases.

Fill Up Early or Late: Fuel density changes with temperature. Buying gas early in the morning when it is coldest ensures the fuel is most dense, getting you slightly more volume per gallon.

Avoid Highway Stations: Stations directly off major highway exits typically charge significantly higher markups than stations a few miles inland.

Maintain Your Car: Keeping your tires properly inflated, changing dirty air filters, and avoiding “topping off” (which can damage your car’s vapor recovery system) ensures your engine burns fuel as efficiently as possible.

My vision sux, blind inone eye, so I don’t drive any more. I can walk to Safeway, Trader Joe, Natural Grocers. Buy my chicken at Trader {boneless, skinless chicken thighs}. In horrible weather, I order same item from Walmart and they deliver to my door. Great service.

Chicken same price at Walmart, no complaints.

The “store brands” are usually made by outside vendor(s) and branded by the final packer for whatever store ordered it. Walmart could be getting shorted and needs improved QA

That is a wholly valid stance to take, FRiend.

An absolutist on this subject sounds (and is) as mistaken and whacky as the Leftist smear of conservatives (Disregarding idiot Libertarians who may actually believe it) that they don’t want any government.

Corporations without any oversight are as predatory and potentially harmful (at least in a focused sense) as government without oversight (which obviously has far greater potential for misery and death).

Conservatives believe in government, but NOT the bloated, overreaching government that we see today. We believe in governments with Constitutionally defined responsibilities and powers.

As you accurately point out, corporations without oversight will pursue, due to human nature, their own “selfish interests”.

Government without oversight operates in exactly the same way, and that is why the Constitution is such a remarkable document.
