Our August church newsletter was in my email inbox this morning & I thought “wow, she’s early!” (was late last month). Then it dawned on me ... it really is AUGUST today! This summer has flown by, although there’s plenty of time yet for some very sultry days.
Looks like starting tomorrow, we’re in for a week of showers. Our area is still in drought conditions, but we’re now moderate rather than severe. Everything at our place is green & growing (especially the grass/weeds).
I think you mean “Pumpkin SPICE season”.

Happy August everyone...I have a love/hate relationship with summer. Fall is my favorite time. We are 20 miles directly north of a 20,000+ acre fire. Plus numerous fires to east. Friend in Sisters had to evacuate, but luckily seems only 1 house in area was lost. But, winds are kicking up again...this year is bad. If it rains, the fire retardant my hub put around our place would fail. But looks like dry/hot for future. We are still learning about gardening here. Have too many cukes, (one plant is 8+ ft tall) and a volunteer tomato is starting to produce. The ones I planted are sorry looking. The wind is more a problem, I thunk. Things dry out faster.

Wow, hard to believe that Aug is here already.
I got my garlic all harvested. It’s curing now.
Some potatoes are starting to die back as are most of the onions.
I did OK with the cabbage, but the slug had a field day with it being so wet.
The tomatoes are doing great but I noticed some stink bugs on a couple tomatoes. I need to go and do a bug check with a container of soapy water to prevent the kind of damage I had one year.
I’ve started with my fall crop plantings.
Overall, a very productive year.
It’s also dragonfly season and we have a bumper crop of those. Not a mosquito to be found anywhere. It’s finally the time of summer we can go out and not be deluged with bugs in the eyes or ears.
I tried some flowers and as usual, cannot be a zinnia crop. This happened both here and in NY. I planted good looking seedlings and something absolutely devours them. I don’t get how people can grow them.
I had pumpkin volunteers this year fun a store bought pumpkin I threw in the bushes.
Picked one and gave it to my daughter and have 1 more ready to pick.

Picked about half a gallon of pole beans yesterday. Mrs. Augie has been making pickles as fast as I can pick the cukes. She's done 16-ish quarts so far. Hot peppers are just about ready for the first picking. I think there's enough out there to make a decent-sized batch of hot sauce. Tomatoes were finally starting to look happy but they sure didn't need all of this new water.
I got more shots in the back yesterday. This round was a test to see if nerve ablation might be a treatment option. The spot where they put the medicine was pain-free for several hours afterwards, which is what we were hoping for. They'll do one more set of shots in the same spot, but with a different medicine, in a week or so. If the results are good the nerve ablation will be the next step.
