UPDATE: The jury has reached the verdict of:

NOT GUILTY on the first count of misdemeanor disorderly conduct, which is the interaction with the child.

GUILTY on the on the second count for the interaction with the videographer.

Hendrix will also receive supervised probation, will serve 200 hours of community work service, and is also ordered to pay a $1,000 fine.

Aside from it being a free speech issue (we should be able to call each other wordy-durds, especially after someone stole your stuff), it's not apt to compare blacks calling other blacks racial slurs to whites calling blacks racial slurs.

The comparison to bring up is how often blacks call whites racial slurs like cracker without being called out on it, much less legally punished for it. Blacks can call whites wordy-durds, but whites can't call blacks wordy-durds.

While the letter of the law applies to any group, the practical decision to issue a citation or file criminal charges relies on law enforcement discretion and prosecutorial judgment:

I've long resented the fact that both police and District Attorneys can refuse to arrest or prosecute when they don't want to, but would do it immediately to anyone who is not a member of the protected class. ("Protected class" to include Police or anyone the police like.)

Who is Shiloh Hendrix?

Shiloh Hendrix is a Minnesota woman who became the center of national attention after a confrontation at Soldiers Field Memorial Park in Rochester on April 28, 2025.

Court records say an 8-year-old Black boy, who is on the autism spectrum, took an applesauce pouch from Hendrix's diaper bag before she confronted him and repeatedly used a racial slur.

The exchange was captured on video by bystander Sharmake Omar, whose recording quickly spread across social media.
